Holstin is a recently released indie psychological horror game developed by Sonka and published by Team17. Set in a remote Polish town in the 1990s, the game centers around a strange, unsettling force, prioritizing a creepy atmosphere and building psychological tension.
Holstin, a game drawing influence from classics like Resident Evil and Silent Hill, has been in development for some time and is starting to gain recognition.
As an analyst, I’m following the developments with this game closely, and I’m optimistic about its future. The new partnership with Team17 is a significant boost. It means better funding for improvements, which I expect will result in a more polished game with more refined and well-developed mechanics. Overall, it’s shaping up to be a much more complete package.
An exciting new indie horror
If you enjoy Resident Evil, you’ll probably like Holstin. It looks fantastic, and I especially love its art style and how it mixes isometric and third-person perspectives. From what we’ve seen, it also seems to offer a fresh and interesting way to play.
Players will venture into Jeziorne-Kolonia, a rundown town in Poland that looks like it’s stuck in the 1990s. A strange infection has taken over, affecting everything – the buildings, animals, and people who live there.
The game centers around exploring the world, staying alive, and wisely using what little you find. Resources are scarce, which creates a constant sense of pressure.
Battles are a highlight of the game. The camera changes from a top-down view to a third-person perspective when you fight, and even switches to first-person when you’re driving a vehicle.

Isometric view
Sonka’s art style gives Holstin a distinct look by merging hand-drawn work with detailed pixel art.
I’m really excited about Holstin – one of the things that’s got me hooked is they’re fully voice acting it in both Polish and English. That’s going to make the world feel so much more real and immersive, honestly. I’m definitely planning on getting the game when it comes out, and I think I’m going to choose the Polish voice acting to really get that authentic experience.
We still don’t have a confirmed release date for Holstin, and it’s unclear when it will become available. The recent partnership and a larger project scope might mean a longer wait, but what we’ve seen so far looks promising and suggests it will be worth it.
The game will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC, meaning most gamers can play it from day one. PC users can even download and try a demo version today.
