The classic light gun shooter, Time Crisis, is being released on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 in May, and now we’re getting a first look at the gameplay, which will include motion controls using the gyro feature.
This isn’t official, but YouTuber Andshrew managed to play the arcade game on a PlayStation 1 emulator by using a modified console to run the game’s original code.
It seems the gyro functionality has been part of the emulator for a while, and works well.
In Time Crisis, the standard controls let you shoot with the Circle button and reload with R1. If you need to, you can use the Triangle button to recenter the aiming.
The video shows the tracking working reliably, and it seems like a really enjoyable experience. It’s not going to match the quality of a classic GunCon setup with a large CRT TV, but it’s much easier to use and set up.
This development opens the door for more light gun games down the line. Since Bandai Namco is one of the few publishers actively supporting PS Plus Premium, we’re hoping they’ll bring over classics like Point Blank and perhaps even Crisis Zone.
It’d be really neat if Capcom joined the fun, and re-released Resident Evil Survivor.
