The Disney+ series *Moon Knight* successfully adapted a particularly complex Marvel comic character and expanded the Marvel Cinematic Universe with elements of Egyptian mythology. Featuring strong performances from Oscar Isaac, Ethan Hawke, and May Calamawy, the show cleverly used a dark and fantastical superhero story to explore themes of trauma and recovery through its protagonist’s experience with Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID). The series ended in May 2022 with a surprising reveal – a third personality for Marc Spector named Jake Lockley – but we haven’t seen the character since.
Oscar Isaac returned as Moon Knight in an episode of the animated series *What If…?* and hinted at a future appearance in a movie. While this could be a quick cameo in *Avengers: Doomsday* or a team-up with the Midnight Sons, fans are hoping for another standalone *Moon Knight* series. Isaac has stated that a second season isn’t officially happening, but here’s what we’d like to see if it were!
We’d Have Marc and Steven Meet Jake Lockley
The season finale of *Moon Knight* sees Marc Spector and Steven Grant freed from their service to Khonshu, the Egyptian moon god who granted them their powers through a special suit. But it’s revealed they were still connected to him all along. Meanwhile, Jake Lockley, Marc’s other personality who speaks Spanish, captures the villain Arthur Harrow from a psychiatric hospital, revealing his existence alongside Khonshu in a limousine.
This explains why Khonshu didn’t fully release Steven and Marc, as Jake was still his servant and appeared to be the most aggressive of their personalities. It also clarifies the scenes where Marc or Steven would suddenly regain control and find evidence of violence they didn’t remember – these events likely happened while Jake was in control and blocking them out.
The existence of another alter that Khonshu knows about, but Marc and Steven don’t, creates a compelling and dramatic problem for a second season of *Moon Knight*. It would allow Marc and Steven to team up again, like they did in the finale, to uncover Jake, and the interaction between all three alters would be a fantastic acting opportunity for Oscar Isaac. There’s also a lot of potential for conflict and tension stemming from Khonshu’s deception and withholding of crucial information. A second season could establish a captivating rivalry between Marc and Steven against Jake and Khonshu, made even more interesting by the fact that they share only two bodies.
We’d Bring in More Scarlet Scarab
Layla El-Faouly’s introduction in *Moon Knight* was a definite highlight of the first season. Starting as Marc’s ex-wife, she developed into a powerful hero, ultimately becoming the Scarlet Scarab – the embodiment of the Egyptian goddess Tawaret. The fact that Layla is Marvel’s first Arab female superhero is a great reason to bring her back for a second season. However, the show ended with her relationship with both Marc and Steven uncertain, leaving viewers wanting to see how things resolve. While she and Marc were seemingly working towards getting back together, Steven also developed feelings for her, creating a complicated love triangle. This dynamic will be interesting to watch, especially considering Layla’s new role as the Scarlet Scarab and her connection to Tawaret. Fans would love to see Layla and Moon Knight team up more often, and it’s possible she could be the one to help Marc’s other personality, Jake, come to light.
We discovered in Season One that Marc was involved in the death of Layla’s father, Abdallah El-Faouly, during his time as a mercenary – his partner acted without orders. However, Layla doesn’t seem to know this. Revealing Marc’s role in her father’s death would create powerful drama in a potential *Moon Knight* Season 2, forcing Layla to decide whether to forgive him or seek revenge.
We’d Make Raoul Bushman the Season’s Villain
Jeremy Slater, the creator of *Moon Knight*, shared that Raul Bushman, a former partner of Marc Spector’s from his mercenary past, was initially planned as the show’s main villain instead of Arthur Harrow. The team ultimately decided against Bushman because they felt his appearance would be too close to the introduction of Kilmonger in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, with almost ten years having passed since *Black Panther* and Kilmonger’s debut, we believe now is the perfect time to introduce Bushman to the series.
Moon Knight is a story about facing difficult memories to heal and become complete. The first season beautifully and sensitively delved into this idea through Marc’s troubled childhood, specifically the abuse he experienced from his mother after she blamed him for his brother Randall’s death.
Bringing Bushman into a second season of *Moon Knight* would give Marc, Steven, and Jake a chance to explore themes of connection, but this time through a friendship instead of family. Since Bushman is often seen as *Moon Knight’s* biggest enemy, he’d be a compelling contrast to Marc, as he’s more forceful and even less concerned with right and wrong than the hero himself.
