I’ve been watching the incredible rise of Jujutsu Kaisen, and it’s amazing how far it’s come. Even though the main story finished in September 2024, the series is more popular now, with a sequel manga and a third season of the anime fueling that growth. It wasn’t always this way, though. Early on, Jujutsu Kaisen was almost cancelled! But the author, Gege Akutami, really grabbed people’s attention with unexpected turns, like when Yuji Itadori seemingly died during the Cursed Womb Arc. That twist, and others, saved the series. It eventually got picked up for an anime adaptation by MAPPA, and from there, it exploded into a global phenomenon. Now, over 150 million copies of the manga are in circulation, which is incredible considering it had only sold around 2.5 million before the anime came out – there were just fewer volumes available back then, and it hadn’t built up its huge fanbase yet.
Unlike Jujutsu Kaisen, Kagurabachi quickly became a hit from the start. Takeru Hokazono’s first manga immediately grabbed readers’ attention and has been growing in popularity ever since its release in September 2023. Even without an anime adaptation, it’s already one of the most successful series in Weekly Shonen Jump. By October 2025, over 3 million copies were in circulation, and sales have continued to climb rapidly. With this level of success, an anime adaptation would likely make Kagurabachi even more popular, potentially exceeding the success of Jujutsu Kaisen and other popular Shonen Jump series.
Kagurabachi’s Anime Is All But Guaranteed

Although it hasn’t been officially announced, an anime adaptation seems very likely and could happen soon. Recent reports and rumors suggest we might even hear news about it this year. The series has been popular for years, so it’s almost certain to be a hit. Talk of an anime started in 2024, just under a year after the manga began, when Shueisha applied to trademark the series for things like animation. These trademarks are important for securing the rights to create an anime, and fans see it as a positive sign that an adaptation is in the works.
I saw a report from Toyo Keizai in December 2024 stating that CygamesPictures – a collaboration between CyberAgent and Shochiku Production – is developing an anime adaptation. This month, the studio announced they’ll be making a big reveal at AnimeJapan 2026, which takes place March 28th and 29th in Tokyo. That announcement naturally got fans excited about a possible anime confirmation. Considering Shonen Jump usually waits over two years to announce an anime, it seems even more probable that Kagurabachi will get an adaptation this year.
