This would be my favorite wireless controller of all time if it wasn’t STILL wired-only on Xbox — but that could actually change

Among the gaming controller manufacturers, GameSir stands out as a top choice for me due to their combination of high quality and value. Consequently, I purposefully set aside time to check out GameSir’s exhibit at CES 2025.

Ever since I came across GameSir, I’ve been yearning for the company to develop a wireless Xbox controller. It appeared as if my wish was about to come true, and indeed, during my recent visit to CES, I had the opportunity to try an early prototype of the GameSir G7 Pro.

It seems the previews suggested what I suspected – the G7 Pro is wireless across all devices, including Xbox. However, upon closer inspection before its launch, it turned out that Xbox users might be overlooked again (possibly due to Microsoft’s peculiar rules regarding Xbox Wireless, not necessarily GameSir’s decision).

Despite my profound disappointment, I was eager to try out the G7 Pro. I discovered that it is effortlessly one of the finest controllers available at the moment, particularly for those who prefer not to spend over $100… however, it does require a wire when used on Xbox. Luckily, GameSir informed me that this might alter in the future.

So much value packed into a single controller

Upon examining the GameSir G7 SE, I found its budget-friendly wired controller to be quite impressive. The GameSir G7 Pro builds upon this solid base by offering significantly more features, including wireless functionality, without exceeding the $100 price point.

This device comes with a robust, plastic construction featuring rubberized handles for a firm grip. It has a detachable front panel (which exposes a transparent casing beneath) and interchangeable D-pads. You’ll find four vibration motors built-in, plus an extra four buttons that can be reprogrammed to suit your needs. The face buttons use optical micro-switches for precision, and it comes with a charging stand in the package. It offers versatile connectivity options, including 2.4GHz wireless (for Windows PC), Bluetooth (for mobile devices), and wired connections for both Xbox and PC systems.

The G7 Pro incorporates GameSir’s robust and precise Tunneling Magnetoresistance (TMR) thumbsticks, enhancing durability and accuracy, as well as traditional Hall Effect technology for its analog triggers, featuring integrated micro-switches that act as trigger stops.

Not only is there a gyroscope compatible with Windows PC, but GameSir’s application, which has already garnered praise for its performance on both Xbox and PC platforms, has received a significant update. This upgrade brings new features and options to the table. For just $80, you get an impressive controller package, and the G7 Pro genuinely feels fantastic when held in your hand.

While I wouldn’t go that far as to call this controller flawless, the analog triggers could be deeper for my personal preference. I’d also appreciate if the rear remappable buttons had some texture and if the thumbsticks were interchangeable. Regrettably, all D-Pad types provided (there are three in total) feel somewhat soft or mushy.

I prefer if the charging dock for the G7 Pro utilized magnets to secure it during charging. Additionally, I appreciate the handy storage space for the wireless receiver within the dock. However, I would also like the dock itself to function as the wireless receiver for a more simplified setup.

In certain aspects, the G7 Pro clearly outperforms the Razer Wolverine V3 Pro, despite its price tag being more than double.

The GameSir G7 Pro surpasses our top pick, the Razer Wolverine V3 Pro in certain aspects, despite some minor drawbacks. The Wolverine V3 Pro is priced significantly higher, yet it lacks a charging stand, Bluetooth compatibility, and advanced TMR sticks that are found in the GameSir G7 Pro.

Indeed, I find that the Wolverine V3 Pro boasts superior control quality all-around. Notably, it comes equipped with interchangeable thumbsticks and even includes a handy carry case. However, what truly sets it apart is its Xbox Wireless compatibility.

Xbox still needs a wire, but a new version is coming

I must admit, I’m truly savoring my experience with the GameSir G7 Pro. In comparison to the pricier Razer Wolverine V3 Pro, I find myself more drawn to its ergonomic design, and surprisingly, its overall performance is almost on par.

GameSir truly excels in creating excellent controllers, and the G7 Pro undoubtedly represents their finest work yet. Frankly, I’m astonished that we’ve almost achieved a genuine wireless Xbox-like controller from GameSir, but alas, they seem to have fallen slightly short at the last hurdle.

After completing this review, I plan on returning to the Wolverine V3 Pro due to having a child and pet cat who tend to overlook the connected wire to my Xbox. While the GameSir G7 Pro comes close to being superior in my opinion (and it’s significantly cheaper), I’m waiting for a wireless version compatible with Xbox to become available.

After completing this review, I plan on returning to the Razer Wolverine V3 Pro temporarily. However, I will switch back once the GameSir G7 Pro releases a wireless Xbox variant.

As an analyst, I inquired about the absence of Xbox Wireless support on the GameSir G7 Pro, and while I’m unable to disclose all the details, I was informed that GameSir intends to unveil a revamped version of the GameSir G7 Pro soon, which will include compatibility with Xbox Wireless.

While this isn’t an official confirmation, GameSir mentioned that they aim to price their exclusive Xbox edition of the G7 Pro around $100. However, keep in mind that details can shift as plans progress. Unfortunately, we need to be patient and wait a bit longer for its release.

GameSir G7 Pro review: My final thoughts

✅You should buy this if …

  • You want a feature-packed, multi-platform wireless controller.
  • You don’t want to spend more than $100 on a pro-grade controller.
  • You mostly game on PC and can also take advantage of Bluetooth.

❌You should not buy this if …

  • You want a wireless Xbox controller (just wait a little longer).
  • You’re really particular about your D-Pads.

I can’t wait to get my hands on the upcoming GameSir G7 Pro Xbox Edition (or its final name), as it has a high probability of becoming my absolute favorite controller, surpassing the Razer Wolverine V3 Pro, the Xbox Wireless Controller, and every other one out there.

I trust that GameSir might consider enhancing the wireless Xbox-compatible G7 Pro model similarly to how they improved the regular G7 with subsequent releases. Should you require inspiration, GameSir, I’ve provided a few suggestions for you (nudge nudge).

As I continue to customize my wishlist, I’m drawn to the stylish “Shadow Ember” color scheme on the G7 Pro. Could you kindly consider creating a purple variant for its faceplate? Many thanks in anticipation.

Currently, the GameSir G7 Pro is an outstanding controller, boasting an impressive versatility with three different methods to link it to your devices. However, if you’re an avid Xbox gamer, I would advise holding off for a bit longer on purchasing the latest G7 Pro model, as there might be an updated version coming soon.

If you’re fond of spending time on your PC, the GameSir G7 Pro is an incredible bargain priced at $80, and you can explore it for just $79.99 on Amazon or $79.99 at Best Buy. Pre-orders start shipping from Jul. 22, so the controller should be more readily available after that date.
