Thor Star Missing From Doomsday Addresses MCU Future & Their Dream Team-Up

One of the actors from the Thor movies isn’t featured in the promotional materials for the new Avengers: Doomsday film, and he’s recently spoken about being left out. This Avengers movie is the first part of a larger story that will finish with Avengers: Secret Wars. Fans of the 2015 Secret Wars comic series might suspect that characters absent from Doomsday could reappear in Secret Wars in a new way, suggesting there’s no need to worry just yet. After all, Doomsday already has a huge cast of Marvel characters.

Tessa Thompson won’t be appearing in Avengers: Doomsday, meaning her character, Valkyrie, likely won’t be in the new Marvel movie. The cast list released by Marvel Studios didn’t include Thompson. When asked about Valkyrie’s future in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Thompson jokingly told the interviewer to contact Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige. She expressed her enjoyment of playing the character, but hinted that Valkyrie’s role depends on the direction of the story.

Thompson shared her hopes for Valkyrie’s return to the MCU, expressing a desire to see her character interact with Reed Richards. She’s particularly excited about the possibility of working with her friend, Pedro Pascal. “It would be a really fun collaboration, and a chance to explore new dynamics with someone I respect,” Thompson explained, adding that it would be a creatively stimulating experience.

Chris Hemsworth is likely to reprise his role as Thor in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, and has suggested his character’s time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe might be coming to an end. The film promises to be packed with heroes, including the Fantastic Four, multiple versions of the X-Men, the Thunderbolts, Wakandan characters like Shuri and M’Baku, newer heroes such as Falcon, Shang-Chi, and Yelena Belova, and a return for Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom. With so many characters, there’s concern that Valkyrie might not have a significant role this time.

How Could Valkyrie Return In The MCU?

Valkyrie used to be the King of Asgard and was effectively running things on Earth. But a lot has happened since then. With the increase in prejudice shown in Secret Invasion and the political problems in Captain America: Brave New World, many Marvel fans are curious about what’s happening in New Asgard. We last saw Valkyrie in The Marvels, where it seemed like she and Carol Danvers might be starting a romantic relationship.

I’ve been thinking about how Valkyrie might come back in the MCU, and while a new direction for her sounds cool, I think there’s a more probable path. In the Secret Wars comics, Doctor Doom controlled a team of Thors, using them as his enforcers with total mind control. I’m hoping that in Avengers: Secret Wars, Doom will use the Thors to maintain order, and that Valkyrie will be involved somehow. Ideally, she wouldn’t be forced to help him, but would actually lead a rebellion, trying to free the Thors from his control and turn them against Doom. That would be an amazing storyline!

Look, as a huge Marvel fan, I’m really hoping Tessa Thompson gets to reprise her role as Valkyrie. Marvel definitely needs to find a way to bring her back for the next Avengers films – she’s too popular not to! We’re looking at Avengers: Doomsday hitting theaters on December 18, 2026, and then Avengers: Secret Wars a year after that, on December 17, 2027. I’m already counting down the days!
