“Avengers: Doomsday” is Marvel’s most ambitious film yet, uniting heroes from different realities to fight Doctor Doom. The movie boasts a huge cast – and there are hints of even more surprises! – which has fans wondering how the directors, Joe and Anthony Russo, will give everyone enough screen time. With “Avengers: Secret Wars” also planned, some speculate that characters might not survive “Doomsday,” creating space for new heroes in the next film.
Okay, so everyone’s been buzzing about potential character deaths in the upcoming Doomsday movie, but it sounds like Thor is safe for now! I was reading about a fun bit of trivia from the press tour for Chris Hemsworth’s new film, Crime 101. He and co-stars Mark Ruffalo and Halle Berry did a BuzzFeed pub quiz, and one question was about who’d been in the most superhero movies. Hemsworth started listing his, and Ruffalo playfully tried to boost his count by mentioning Avengers 6 (Secret Wars). Hemsworth quickly pointed out they haven’t even filmed that one yet, so it shouldn’t count! It was a lighthearted moment, but definitely reassuring for Thor fans.
Will Thor Return in Avengers: Secret Wars?

The second trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, released in late December, focused on Thor. Unlike the humorous style of his recent solo films, the trailer hinted at a more emotional story. It showed Thor praying for the strength to protect his adopted daughter, Love. While he wants to return to a peaceful life with her, the trailer suggests he might be prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice to defeat a formidable foe.
It’s possible things could change, but it seems Thor will survive the upcoming Doomsday movie without any major injuries. Chris Hemsworth mentioning they haven’t filmed Secret Wars yet suggests he’ll be in that film, though Marvel hasn’t officially announced the cast. The studio is currently focused on promoting Doomsday and hasn’t revealed much about Secret Wars. Aside from a few actors like Anthony Mackie and the cast of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Marvel is keeping the Secret Wars cast a secret to avoid spoilers and keep fans guessing about who will make it out alive.
Marvel is known for keeping its plans secret, and Chris Hemsworth has been with the franchise for a long time. He’s skilled at answering questions without giving too much away, so his recent comments about returning as Thor in Secret Wars might be intentionally misleading. While it sounds like a confirmation, he could be trying to protect a major plot point – whether Thor survives Doomsday. He likely made a vague statement about Secret Wars to avoid spoiling anything about the character’s fate.
While anything could happen, bringing Thor back for Secret Wars makes a lot of sense. He’s still a hugely popular character, and there’s a lot of potential for interesting stories. We could see his relationship with Love develop further, and many fans are hoping for a reunion with Loki. Given how much is happening in the Avengers movies, spreading Thor’s story across two films would allow these plotlines to unfold naturally before Chris Hemsworth potentially wraps up his time as the character at the end of this saga. Ultimately, Hemsworth’s remarks point to a tricky situation for Marvel this year: anything said about Secret Wars could inadvertently reveal details about Doomsday.
