Charlie Woods’ future is on par with his dad’s.
Tiger Woods‘ 17-year-old son, whose mother is Elin Nordegren, has announced he plans to play golf in college, following in his famous father’s footsteps.
On February 10th, Charlie announced on Instagram that he’s committed to playing golf at Florida State University. He’s scheduled to graduate high school in Spring 2027 and expressed his excitement with a simple, “Go Noles!”
I was so thrilled to hear the news! Tiger, who was a fantastic golfer at Stanford for a couple of years before becoming a pro in ’96, was clearly overjoyed for his son, and honestly, it made my day to see that.
A commenter, aged 50, wrote, “Congratulations Charlie! I’m really proud of you as you start this new phase of your life.”
Tiger Woods, who is also a father to 18-year-old Sam Alexis Woods with Elin Nordegren, has consistently expressed his support for his son Charlie’s golf game. This has been especially true since they started playing in tournaments together in 2020, particularly after Charlie made his first hole-in-one in December 2024.
Tiger said it was one of the most memorable moments he’d ever witnessed. Right before, the player had made an eagle, and then immediately followed it up with a hole-in-one – an incredible two-hole run.
He added, “I’m just so happy for him and for the enjoyment that we had as a family.”
Last year, the golf tournament was even more of a family event. Sam joined her father and brother, caddying for her dad during the competition.

Tiger Woods praised Sam, saying she was ‘fantastic’ and noting it was her first time participating in the event, as he told Golf Channel in December 2023.
Having both of my children involved in golf like this, actually playing and being a part of the game with me, was an incredibly special experience.
Charlie is building on the legacy of his famous father, but he’s not the only athlete whose children are following in their footsteps. Here’s a look at other sports stars and their talented kids.

As a lifelong fan, it was only natural to see Michael Jordan’s sons, Jeffrey and Marcus, try to make their own names in basketball! Jeffrey really worked hard to establish himself as a player, first in high school, and then in college – he actually played at both the University of Illinois and University of Central Florida, determined to be known for his own skills, not just as Michael Jordan’s son.
In 2005, Jeffrey told The Washington Post that he knew he wasn’t among the best players in his state, but he was determined to prove he deserved to compete and wasn’t just relying on his reputation.
While studying at UCF, Marcus also played basketball, and he says his father was instrumental in helping him find his direction in life.
He shared advice whenever I needed it, but mostly he emphasized the importance of staying focused and working hard daily, believing that effort would eventually lead to success, he told The Gainesville Sun in 2011.

Bronny James (born LeBron James Jr. on October 6, 2004) played high school basketball at Sierra Canyon in the San Fernando Valley and then went on to attend the University of Southern California.
LeBron’s busy NBA schedule has often made it difficult for him to attend all of his son Bronny’s games, but he’s always made a real effort to be there. He once even chartered a private plane on a day off just to watch Bronny’s team, Sierra Canyon, play against his old high school, St. Vincent-St. Mary, in Akron, Ohio.
LeBron told reporters that watching his son play against his former college team was a surreal and incredibly special experience, bringing things full circle.
In June 2024, Bronny James was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers, creating NBA history alongside his father, LeBron James, as the first father-son pair to play in the league simultaneously.
LeBron James’s son, Bryce James, began his college basketball career at the University of Arizona in 2025.

Rounding out the Sierra Canyon team of stars is Zaire Wade, the oldest son of former Miami Heat player, Dwyane Wade.
Zaire, who joined the team in December 2019 after transferring from Florida, explained to Yahoo! Sports that they’re learning to deal with all the attention. He said they’re being followed by cameras everywhere, and while he’s used to being in the spotlight, this level of attention is unlike anything he’s experienced before.
In April 2020, Zaire announced on Instagram that he was transferring to Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, Florida, because he wasn’t getting enough playing time.
Zaire was selected 10th overall in the 2021 NBA G League draft by the Salt Lake City Stars. He later played for the Cape Town Tigers in the Basketball Africa League and most recently signed with a team in the ASEAN Basketball League in April 2024.

Former football star Cha’iel Johnson might be surpassed by his own daughter’s athletic achievements. At just 12 years old, she won the girls’ 800-meter race at the 2017 AAU Junior Olympics, showcasing her talent in track and field.
She first competed as a runner for St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Florida, and later joined the track and field team at the University of Kentucky.

One of the NBA legend’s sons, standing 6-foot-10, played basketball at UCLA. His college career was unfortunately cut short when he needed heart surgery due to a medical condition.
He sat out the 2018-19 season after leaving his previous school and then transferred to Louisiana State University (LSU). LSU famously honors its alumni, including Shaq, with a 900-pound bronze statue outside the basketball practice facility.
After finishing his college career at Louisiana State University, the basketball player began his professional journey in 2022 with the NBA G League Ignite, a team designed to develop young talent for the NBA.

Shaquille O’Neal’s daughter, who is 6-foot-2, decided to attend LSU in 2020 to play basketball alongside her brother, Shareef O’Neal. (They are pictured together here.)
Making the transition from high school to college is a huge decision, and it was definitely tough for me,” she said. “I’m a little nervous about what the future holds, but I’m also ready for the challenge. I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve committed to playing a sport at LSU with my brother, Shareef O’Neal. I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to spend the next four years as a Tiger.
She joined the basketball team at Texas Southern University for the 2021-2022 season.

The oldest daughter of a two-time NBA All-Star played basketball with Izela Arenas, daughter of Gilbert Arenas, while they both attended Sierra Canyon school.
In a December 2020 interview with the Los Angeles Times, Randolph described his time playing for Michigan State coach Tom Izzo. He said Izzo was a tough, demanding coach who pushed his male players hard. Randolph contrasted this with how Izzo interacted with the female players, saying they were able to connect with him on a more personal level and he was very supportive of their efforts, holding a special place in his heart for them.
MacKenly jokingly claimed she had won against her father in their one-on-one matchups three times, adding that he doesn’t bother trying to defend himself.

Terique, the 6’3″ son of an NFL Hall of Famer, initially joined Florida Atlantic University’s football team as a walk-on in 2019. He spent most of his childhood playing basketball before deciding to focus on football during his teenage years. He first played college football at Contra Costa Community College before transferring to FAU.
After his college football career, Terique signed with the San Francisco 49ers’ practice squad.

A standout player from Sierra Canyon High School, he started every year and led his team to two state championships. He then played college basketball at Vanderbilt University before joining the Los Angeles Lakers in 2022 with a two-way contract.
In 2024, Scotty Jr. signed a contract with the Memphis Grizzlies that allows him to play for both the Grizzlies and their G-League affiliate, after a short time playing with the South Bay Lakers.

Michael Jordan, the legendary Chicago Bulls player and five-time NBA champion, is also a father.
You know, people are always curious about the kids of famous athletes! Dennis Rodman’s son, DJ, was quite the athlete himself. He excelled at both basketball and football at Corona del Mar High School in California. He initially played college basketball at Washington State, but recently transferred to the University of Southern California – a great move for him, I think!
After a game in 2017, his high school coach, Ryan Schachter, told the Orange County Register that he was a talented player in Southern California who hadn’t received much recognition.
After his college career, DJ joined Capital City Go-Go of the NBA G League in 2024.

While Dennis Rodman’s son followed in his footsteps by playing basketball, his daughter, Trinity Rodman, became a soccer star. After her first college season was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic, she turned professional in 2021, joining the Washington Spirit, and in 2022, she made the United States Women’s National Soccer Team.
In 2024, Trinity won Olympic gold as part of Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Can you believe it? Tiger Woods’ son, Charlie, is incredible! It was absolutely amazing watching him play alongside his dad for the first time on TV at the 2020 PNC Championship – he was only 11 years old, and already showing serious golf talent. It just makes sense that the greatest golfer ever would have a kid who’s a natural!
Okay, so they asked him if he’d been practicing, you know, working on his swing before playing with Charlie, and honestly? He said he hadn’t! Can you believe it?! He basically said he doesn’t even care about how he plays. It’s just… everything is about Charlie having an amazing time, and that’s it. It’s so sweet, honestly. He just wants his son to enjoy everything, and that’s all that matters to him. I’m obsessed with how much he cares!
