Tim Burton is planning a remake of the 1958 sci-fi film Attack of the 50 Foot Woman, and the writing team behind the popular Netflix series KPop Demon Hunters will be writing the screenplay. Burton signed on to direct the remake in 2024, with Gone Girl writer Gillian Flynn also involved in the script. The original film tells the story of a wealthy woman who grows to enormous size after an alien encounter, all while dealing with an unfaithful husband.
Danya Jimenez and Hannah McMechan, the writers behind KPop Demon Hunters, are now working on a new version of the classic film Attack of the 50 Foot Woman, reports The Hollywood Reporter. They co-wrote KPop Demon Hunters with directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the duo said about taking on the remake:
We find the concept of a giant woman causing chaos after being wronged incredibly appealing, and we suspect many others will feel the same way.

Netflix
In 2025, KPop Demon Hunters became a massive success, breaking records as Netflix’s most-watched movie ever. It also had a successful run in theaters after its streaming debut, and the movie’s soundtrack topped the music charts. Now, it’s receiving critical acclaim with nominations for three Golden Globes, five Grammys, and ten Annie Awards, and is predicted to win Best Original Song at the Oscars. Warner Bros. has made a smart move by hiring the film’s screenwriters for Burton’s upcoming project.
Danya Jimenez and Hannah McMechan are quickly becoming successful screenwriters. They landed the job of writing KPop Demon Hunters after being recommended by Nicole Perlman, one of the original writers of Guardians of the Galaxy, to the film’s co-director and co-writer, Maggie Kang. Currently, they’re developing both an original queer Western movie and a series called A Really Bad Person. They were previously involved in writing a biopic about Cheech & Chong and a Shrek spin-off focusing on Lord Farquaad for DreamWorks Animation.

Last August, rumors began circulating that Margot Robbie, known for her role in Barbie, was considering starring in a remake of Attack of the 50 Foot Woman. While nothing has been confirmed, the project seems promising with Tim Burton potentially directing and a new script being written by Danya Jimenez and Hannah McMechan. Remaking classic 1950s sci-fi films like Fantastic Voyage, Creature from the Black Lagoon, and Forbidden Planet has proven difficult, but Attack of the 50 Foot Woman appears to be gaining momentum.
