Time Is Running Out to Watch JJ Abrams’ $280M Creature Franchise

It’s hard to beat a truly great monster movie, but unfortunately, there aren’t enough of them. Even if they aren’t perfect, they can still be really impactful and worth watching.

When he released Cloverfield and 10 Cloverfield Lane, both films gained dedicated fans over time – Cloverfield in particular. However, as March ends, those loyal fans are receiving some unwelcome news.

As a huge fan of those Cloverfield movies, I was really bummed to hear that both the original and 10 Cloverfield Lane are getting pulled from Paramount+ on April 1st. It means if I want to watch them, I’ll have to rent or buy them, which isn’t ideal. It’s a shame they’re leaving a streaming service!

What Happened in Cloverfield?

When it came out, Cloverfield offered a fresh take on the alien invasion genre. Like The Blair Witch Project, it was filmed as if by someone holding a handheld camera, but it was much more action-packed. The movie shows a group of friends enjoying a farewell party before starting their adult lives, and then suddenly struggling to survive as an alien attacks New York City.

Friends died. Panic ensued. Devastation and obliteration (read: Hammerdown Protocol) was imminent.

All of this was happening while also dodging creepy, spider-like creatures that carried a really nasty virus. Then, in 2016, came 10 Cloverfield Lane, a sequel fans had waited eight years to see.

10 Cloverfield Lane Had a Hidden Message

After a car accident, Michelle (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) ends up in an underground bunker with Howard (John Goodman) and Emmett (John Gallagher Jr.) following the alien attack seen in Cloverfield.

The two men urgently try to persuade her that the events of Cloverfield have rendered Earth uninhabitable, hoping to stop her from leaving. As she soon realizes, they’re trying to keep her safe. The film blends intense survival horror with psychological suspense, showing that the real threat isn’t just the alien invasion—people are capable of terrible things too.

With The Cloverfield Paradox, the third film in the series, the Cloverfield franchise has earned over $280 million at the box office. While it’s still available to stream, fans hoping to watch Cloverfield or 10 Cloverfield Lane on Paramount+ need to do so quickly, as both movies will soon be removed from the platform.
