Timothée Chalamet is detailing an uncomfortable encounter with a former costar.

The actor, who has been nominated for an Oscar, shared that a coworker on a previous film criticized his acting. It appeared the criticism stemmed from a difference in their levels of training.

Timothée Chalamet recounted a conversation with Matthew McConaughey, as published by Variety on February 21st. He described an unnamed person as being rude, explaining that the individual questioned his acting background because Timothée hadn’t attended a formal acting school. Timothée pointed out they were all working as part of a larger group at the time.

Even though it seemed like a slight, the actor known as Marty Supreme—who is currently dating Kylie Jenner—explained that he’s used to ignoring unwanted advice about his career.

I’ve always believed you have to be careful with people who seem to dish out a lot more advice than they actually take themselves. It’s like they’re just really into giving the advice, not actually helping you. Once they start showing off how much they know, it becomes impossible to even hear what they’re saying – it’s just a power play, honestly.

Though Timothée, 30, didn’t say who the actor was, he did mention that Matthew—his co-star in the 2014 film Interstellar—handled the situation differently.

“You never did that to me, though,” he told the Oscar winner, “which I’m grateful for.”

Timothée has often spoken about how much he loves acting. He even shared his ambition to become a legendary performer when he accepted his 2025 SAG Award for playing Bob Dylan in the movie A Complete Unknown.
