Timothy Busfield Surrenders to Police, Denies Child Sex Abuse Charges

Timothy Busfield is facing his legal woes.

I was shocked to hear the news – a former star from The West Wing turned himself in to police in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It’s incredibly disturbing; apparently, a warrant was issued for his arrest after accusations of criminal sexual contact with eleven-year-old twin boys. It’s just awful, and I’m following the story closely.

Before turning himself in, Busfield said he was innocent and wanted to address the claims against him directly.

In a video released by TMZ on January 13th, he strongly denied the accusations, calling them “horrible” and “all lies.” He stated he had no involvement with the two young boys in question.

The 68-year-old stated he intends to vigorously defend himself against the charges, working with a strong legal team. He expressed confidence he would be cleared of all accusations, believing the situation is entirely unjust.

TopMob News has reached out to Busfield’s personal attorney for comment but has not heard back.

A police investigation into Timothy Busfield, husband of actress Melissa Gilbert, began in November 2024 after a doctor at the University of New Mexico Hospital reported concerns about possible sexual abuse. However, authorities determined the case didn’t have enough evidence to pursue at that time, according to a warrant obtained by TopMob News on January 9th.

In October, the twins’ mother reported to Child Protective Services that the Emmy-winning actor sexually abused her sons between November 2022 and spring 2024. The twins, who were child actors on the TV show The Cleaning Lady directed by Busfield, told their mother about the abuse. According to court documents, one of the boys said the abuse started when he was just 7 years old.

In a November interview with investigators, Busfield stated he probably had physical contact with the twin actors while filming the Fox series in New Mexico. He claimed their father forced them to hug him even when they didn’t want to, according to the warrant. Busfield also said the twins’ parents were unhappy when the show replaced their children with a younger actor.

Actor Busfield, who has appeared in shows like Thirtysomething and Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, was previously accused of sexual assault. In 2012, a woman claimed he groped her at a movie theater in Los Angeles. However, the City Attorney’s Office decided not to file charges because they didn’t believe there was enough evidence to pursue the case.

According to a police warrant, Busfield claimed the interaction was consensual, but he hasn’t made any public statements about the accusations.
