TinTin 2 is happening!

We love the old TinTin animated series, though it’s rarely shown on TV anymore. In 2011, Steven Spielberg directed a motion-capture film, The Adventures of Tintin, produced by Peter Jackson, which grossed nearly $374 million. They had an agreement where they would switch roles for a sequel and then co-direct a third film. However, fifteen years later, that second film hasn’t materialized. So, what’s the story with Tintin 2?

Peter Jackson recently announced that a new Tintin movie is in the works. Speaking at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, where he received an honorary Palme D’or, he expressed some embarrassment that the project has taken so long to come to fruition. He stated, ‘Steven [Spielberg] made his film, and then for 15 years I haven’t made mine. I feel awkward about that.’

Jackson shared exciting news with the audience: he and Fran Walsh are actively working on a new Tintin script. He revealed he was even writing it during his stay at the festival, and expressed his genuine enthusiasm for returning to the Tintin universe.

I’ve known for years he had big plans, and it’s not just this new film! He’s always wanted to revisit ‘The Dambusters,’ that incredible story of the RAF’s attack on the German dams during WWII. He feels the real story is far more captivating than the original 1955 film. Apparently, a lot of the technology used was so top-secret they couldn’t include it back then. He says it’s a truly amazing tale of ingenuity and overcoming obstacles to reach a vital goal, and I can’t wait to see how he tells it!
