After a month of waiting and some debate following its announcement at The Game Awards, the free-to-play first-person shooter, Highguard, is now available on the PS Store. You can finally try it out and see what you think!
It’s hard to say precisely why this game – made by a talented team that includes the people behind Apex Legends and Titanfall – is receiving so much criticism.
The campaign wrapped up after last year’s livestream, where Geoff Keighley presented it with a lot of enthusiasm. At the time, some found it to be fairly unremarkable.
Many hardcore gamers tend to dislike online shooting games, but recent releases like ARC Raiders have proven popular despite this negative perception.
Highguard recently became a hot topic after its social media went silent for weeks following the game’s announcement. However, after the game’s trophy list appeared on Sony’s servers last week, the account has become active again.
We’re hosting a livestream later today at 10AM Pacific Time / 6PM GMT to discuss the game’s current state and what we have planned for its first year.
The game will then be available to download and play, for free, on the PS5.
The studio likely believes letting people try the experience firsthand will prove its quality and address any criticism.
It will be interesting to see if the game can overcome the negative reaction it’s received since its announcement.
Will you be giving it a go?
