Today’s Jill Martin Shares What She Learned From Cancer Journey

Jill Martin isn’t taking one day for granted.

Over the past two years, since the Today show contributor revealed she had breast cancer, she’s focused on simply continuing to live her life.

Life is precious,” Jill shared with TopMob News on October 1st during Pink Power Day on TODAY, as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. “Don’t take any day for granted. Decide what’s important to you, and then politely decline anything that doesn’t align with those priorities. Life is too short.”

Part of choosing what she wants in her life has also meant picking who she wants to do life with.

Jill-who finalized her divorce from Erik Brooks in 2023 not long after revealing her health condition-explained, “I’ve intentionally built a life filled with wonderful people, and I’m determined to savor every moment.”

During a July 2023 appearance on the NBC morning show, the lifestyle contributor shared that she had genetic testing done. This was prompted by a family history of the disease-her mother and grandmother both had it-and, combined with her routine mammogram, led to a diagnosis of stage 2 cancer.

Following her diagnosis, she bravely went through a double mastectomy, reconstructive surgery, a hysterectomy, chemotherapy, and radiation treatments. Thankfully, she is now cancer free.

“I’m incredibly proud of how I navigated both cancer and a divorce within the same year, and I was surprised by my own resilience,” Jill shared with TopMob News. “I hadn’t realized how confident and strong I was, or how powerfully my body would fight. Because of that journey, I wouldn’t change anything, as it shaped me into the person I am today.”

Regarding advice for women-beyond genetic cancer screenings and mammograms-the founder of the Warrior Effect encourages them to learn from her own experiences.

“Simply live your life with self-assurance and actively seek out knowledge for yourself,” she explained. “Many people hesitate to undergo genetic testing, but facing cancer is far more difficult. I urge you to get tested. Prioritize your own well-being and be your biggest advocate.”
