Todd Chrisley Details “Big Adjustment Period” After His Prison Release

Todd Chrisley knows the best part of life after lock up.

After spending three months outside prison walls following President Donald Trump’s pardon for their fraud convictions, reality TV star Chrisley patriarch and his wife Julie Chrisley took time to contemplate the transformations they encountered upon their return home.

Todd shared with TopMob News correspondent Will Marfuggi during a private conversation, “Returning home to your loved ones and familiar environment is always reassuring, but there’s a transition phase as you go from living your life one way for years to spending the last 28 months adapting to someone else’s routines.

Savannah Chrisley, the 56-year-old’s daughter who strongly supported her parents’ release, concurred with her father that although it was wonderful to have their family reunited, it undeniably marked a significant change.

She remarked during their shared interview, airing tonight on TopMob News at 11 p.m., that stepping back into the world feels like others have been living differently. Despite our gratitude (and her efforts being immense to bring them home), it’s a significant readjustment phase for everyone returning to their normal lives.

Savannah added, “Everyone’s just in shock.”

Despite having to start anew at home, Todd, who is a father to Lindsie (age 35), Kyle (age 32), and three other children – Chase (age 29), Grayson (age 19), and Chloe (age 12) – from different relationships, he is just happy to be back home.

Feeling content, he found himself snuggled up in bed next to his wife. He added, ‘It brought me joy to know Chloe was in the adjacent room, allowing me a goodnight kiss. Knowing that Grayson, Savannah, and Chase were tucked away in their respective rooms. Knowing my mother was visiting occasionally, I had been yearning for just such a scenario. So, it was truly a blessing.’

Additionally, Todd looks forward to embarking on a fresh chapter in life, a journey that is being chronicled in the family’s new Lifetime reality show titled “The Chrisleys: Back to Reality“, set to premiere on Sept. 1. In fact, he expresses that he now finds greater understanding and clarity in his life.

He expressed a more defined understanding of his life’s path and the direction he desires, prior to discussing his personal transformation within prison. He mentioned that he is less prone to being upset over matters that used to bother him significantly. Things that once seemed important no longer hold the same weight for him as they did before.

Todd explained, “I don’t stress about everything needing to be flawless. I don’t worry about you perceiving us as perfect. Instead, I find a deeper sense of peace within me.

Starting September 1st, at 8 p.m. Eastern Time on Lifetime, tune in for the premiere of ‘A New Reality with The Chrisleys.’ If you’d like to catch up on their case and pardon details beforehand, keep reading!

In August 2019, a federal grand jury in Atlanta brought charges against me, Todd Chrisley, and my wife Julie, totaling twelve counts. These charges included wire fraud, conspiring to commit bank fraud, and attempting to deceive the United States government, as reported by NBC News. The prosecution asserted that our alleged scheme originated in the mid-2000s and involved numerous acts of financial misconduct. Specifically, we are accused of evading approximately $2 million in state taxes from 2008 to 2016 and concealing over $1 million from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

On the eve of the issuance of the indictment, Todd asserted that both he and his spouse were not guilty. Instead, he pointed the finger at a trusted employee who was accused of embezzling funds and extorting them.

In a recent post on Instagram, I expressed my transparency by saying, “I have no secrets or regrets to conceal.” Moreover, not only am I confident about my innocent actions, but I also possess a substantial amount of solid proof and numerous reliable witnesses who can vouch for my innocence.

It took three years for the stars of Chrisley Knows Best to stand trial. Over a span of three weeks, they heard numerous testimonies. Despite entering not guilty pleas, they were found guilty on all charges related to tax evasion and bank fraud on June 7, 2022.

In simpler terms, it was claimed by the U.S. attorney’s office that the duo, along with their accountant named Peter Tarantino, were involved in a conspiracy that led to banks losing over $30 million over a period of ten years. Both Peter Tarantino and the duo were accused in this fraud trial.

In Keri Farley’s June 2022 statement as Special Agent in Charge of FBI Atlanta, she emphasized that regardless of one’s status or wealth, dishonesty through lying, cheating, and stealing will never evade justice. She further stated that when motivated by greed, the verdict of guilty on all counts for these three defendants serves as a reminder that financial crimes ultimately do not bring profit.

After a span of five months, the Northern District of Georgia handed down sentences: Todd received a 12-year imprisonment term, while Julie was sentenced to serve seven years, and Peter’s sentence was three years in prison.

For approximately ten years, the accused individuals swindled banks out of substantial amounts of money, around tens of millions, all while avoiding payment of their federal taxes. In a statement issued in November 2022, U.S. Attorney Ryan K. Buchanan made this declaration. The severe penalties they received underscore the extensive nature of their criminal activity and should deter anyone considering misusing our nation’s banking system for illegal personal profit.

In September 2023, the lengths of both Julie’s and Todd’s sentences were reduced: Julie is now set for release a total of 15 months and 3 months earlier than initially planned, while Todd will be freed two years ahead of his previously scheduled 2035 release date.

Jay Surgent, the attorneys for Todd and Julie, expressed in September 2023 that they are exemplary detainees who were given unusually long sentences. He stated that Todd’s sentence has been reduced to ten years, while Julie’s has been cut down to five years.

In January 2023, Todd and his partner both began their individual prison terms. Todd is serving his sentence at the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Pensacola in Florida, while Julie is imprisoned at a separate federal facility in Lexington, Kentucky.

After a period of six months since Julie and Todd were incarcerated separately, Savannah Chrisley offered some details about how they were faring. She disclosed that unfortunately, there was no communication between them during their imprisonment.

In her Instagram post dated August 2023, she expressed that it’s been 195 days of silence between us and her heart is aching with the pain. She implores for assistance in seeking justice.

She also pushed back at rumors about their time in prison.

I find myself chuckling at the comment one of them made about me, saying ‘He’s let himself go.’ On my podcast, ‘Unlocked with Savannah Chrisley,’ I shared this laughable moment. Here’s why it’s amusing: While incarcerated, hair color isn’t an option available in commissaries. So, it’s no surprise that my hair has turned gray! If we were to meet today and he was out, I’d tell him not to change a thing – his current style suits him well, and I’d even go as far as praising the impressive work of his prison barber.

In a statement made from within his jail cell, Todd shared details about the alleged mistreatment he experienced at the federal prison camp located in Pensacola, Florida.

He remarked during a call interview on the December 2023 edition of Cuomo, “The food is no longer good; it’s beyond its expiry date.

He went on to say, “There are rats and squirrels infesting the storage facility where our food is kept. They concealed it under plastic sheets, but due to the extensive black mold growth, they had to tear open the ceiling. Unfortunately, in doing so, a dead cat fell from the ceiling onto the food.

In the midst of the unsettling incidents at the cafeteria, I find myself compelled to share an additional, troubling revelation: it’s been claimed that a person tried to blackmail my loved ones as well. This only underscores the need for increased vigilance and safety measures in our community.

He mentioned that someone took a photo of him while he was asleep and sent it to his daughter, asking for a monthly payment of $2,600 allegedly for his protection.

Savannah, who is responsible for caring for her younger siblings Grayson and Chloe while their parents are incarcerated, shares that the emotional burden of their convictions and limited communication with each other has been significant for her.

She told TopMob News in March 2024 that the last conversation they had was before her father was sent to federal prison in the morning. She claimed that he is facing a significant amount of backlash due to their vocal criticisms regarding prison conditions.

In reality, she claimed that the prison authorities were hindering much of his email communication with her mother.

Yet, she didn’t intend for the event to be centered on her, but she did acknowledge that it sometimes became too much to handle.

Savannah shared on her April 2024 podcast, Unlocked, that she often feels a sense of disconnect, as if Mom and Dad are being left behind by life. Similarly, she experiences this feeling with people in her own life, as though they’re carrying on with their lives without much regard for her presence.

She went on saying, “I’m finding it tough to breathe here, juggling between financial responsibilities for the children, managing parenting, and maintaining a relationship.

In June 2024, Julie’s seven-year prison term was reversed by a three-judge panel of the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. While the panel confirmed her convictions, they decided that the sentencing judge in the 2022 trial had incorrectly determined the punishment for the reality star.

In their decision, the judges expressed that the district court failed to clarify the specific evidence used to convict Julie for pre-2007 losses. Since we are unable to locate this evidence within the records either, the judges have decided to overturn Julie’s sentence and send it back to the district court for them to establish the relevant facts, calculate damages, and recalculate restitution, forfeiture, and a new sentence for Julie accordingly.

In simpler terms, the decision about modifying her sentence was given to a lower court, whereas Todd’s sentence remained unchanged.

Approximately three months following the annulment of her prison term, the court in Atlanta ended up maintaining Julie’s original seven-year imprisonment verdict. In a heartfelt display of remorse, Julie apologized, addressing both her children and the court with tears in her eyes.

In simpler terms, Julie expressed remorse during a court hearing, as reported by People on September 25th. She mentioned that she’s had ample time to reflect on her words over several years, and she’s deeply sorry for the actions and circumstances that have led to the current situation. Moreover, she admitted that her incarceration spanned 20 months, but she emphasized that the regretful events leading up to the trial predated this period.

She shared, “I’ve made every effort to reconnect with my family. I’ve even taken various tests to learn new skills like driving a forklift and serving food properly. This journey has been incredibly challenging for me. I can never fully compensate my children for the hardships they’ve faced, and for that, I am deeply sorry.

The Chrisleys are returning home, as they’ve been granted a presidential pardon by Donald Trump. He shared this news with Savannah during a phone conversation on May 27, 2025.

Savannah expressed her gratitude to TopMob News by saying that for the last two and a half years, she has tirelessly worked to secure her parents’ release and their return home. This moment is the long-awaited answer to many prayers, and she is deeply thankful to President Trump for recognizing the truth and restoring her family.

They were both released on May 28, 2025.

After Todd and Julie were freed, they swiftly adjusted to a different routine for themselves. However, they both confessed that their incarceration left its mark on them.

In June 2025, during an appearance on My View with Lara Trump, Todd expressed that “we’ve evolved,” adding that “if we hadn’t evolved over the past 28 months, it would have all been for naught.

Given that the couple had been anticipating additional months behind bars, they shared with us just how strange and surreal it felt for them upon their unexpected early release and return home.

At a May 2025 press conference, Todd expressed his feelings by saying, “On my first morning, I opened my eyes and took a look around. It felt incredibly real to me – I had returned home. I was filled with gratitude to find all our family members reunited in one place, sharing meals together, praying together, and standing strong side by side.
