After spending decades married, the lifelong commitment of “for better or for worse, till death do us part” can sometimes turn into a challenging reality, as our Editor’s wife has experienced. However, Millie (Alison Brie), who just landed her dream job as a school teacher, remains optimistic about her future with Tim (Dave Franco). They host a farewell party for their city friends before moving to the countryside together. Yet, things take an awkward turn when Millie proposes to Tim in front of everyone, and he hesitates to respond, causing an uncomfortable silence. Later that night, she tells him that if they don’t separate now, it will be even harder when they move, foreshadowing future difficulties. These words come back to haunt them later on.
The long-term commitment of marriage, as symbolized by the vow “for better or for worse, till death do us part,” can sometimes become a challenge instead of a dream, as our Editor’s wife has found out. In contrast, Millie (Alison Brie) is hopeful about her future with Tim (Dave Franco), after securing her dream job as a school teacher. They organize a party for their city friends before leaving for the countryside together. However, things become awkward when Millie proposes to Tim in front of everyone, and he hesitates to respond, causing an uncomfortable silence. After the party, she warns him that if they don’t separate now, it will be more difficult once they move, predicting future difficulties. These words come back to haunt them later on.
For Tim, a budding but not-yet-successful musician, Millie’s job transfer out of the city is a significant boost for his dreams. However, he now finds himself stuck at home without a driver’s license, feeling isolated in their new rural dwelling. This change has been tough on him, especially with the recent discovery of something suspicious in their ceiling, the unsettling news about a local couple who have vanished, and their own harrowing experience of getting trapped inside an underground cave during heavy rainstorms. They spent an anxious night there, with Tim eventually deciding to drink from the subterranean stream’s water. The tension among spectators is palpable as they exclaim, “Oh no!
This movie, penned and directed by Michael Shanks, skillfully combines elements reminiscent of David Cronenberg’s works, John Carpenter’s ‘The Thing’, and Brian Yuzna’s ‘Society’. The plot takes an unexpected turn for the main couple, with stunning special effects causing their bodies to deform, a scene in a restroom that could make even the most stoic men uncomfortable. The real-life couple and producers, Brie and Franco, deliver exceptional performances as the pair. The film seamlessly shifts between horror and humor, resulting in an incredibly enjoyable movie, though it may not be suitable for a romantic outing.
