Tom Sandoval Shares What Winning AGT Would Really Mean to Him

It’s safe to say Tom Sandoval is pretty pumped about his success on America’s Got Talent.

A week following the Vanderpump Rules alum’s impressive performance on the show that took them through to the next stage, the lead singer of Tom Sandoval & The Most Extras is now focusing forward and disclosing what a possible victory in season 20 of the NBC reality series could signify for him and his band.

He shared with TopMob News that it would be incredibly exciting if the event were to happen. Although the odds are extremely low due to the numerous talented bands around, he expressed his immense joy at the prospect of it happening, not just for the band, but also for himself.

Additionally, beyond the $1 million reward, he envisions his band as the headline act for a concert residency of their very own.

As Tom added, “I would love that, definitely.”

As he prepared for his audition (broadcasted in the June 24 show), the reality television personality disclosed the specific judge out of the four, whom he felt the most anxious to receive criticism from regarding his rendition of A-ha’s popular ’80s song “Take on Me.

Tom mentioned, “Without a doubt, it’s Simon Cowell.” He’s truly iconic. Of course, they all have their own reputations, but he certainly stands out for his frankness.

Thankfully for him and his band, Simon only had rave reviews to share.

As Simon Cowell flashed his grin at the finale, I couldn’t help but mirror his joy, especially when Mel B chimed in with her heartfelt compliment, “You really made my day brighter, and I adore it. You’re unabashedly a cover man.” The atmosphere was electric with everyone enjoying themselves to the fullest, culminating in a standing ovation. That moment of appreciation means more to me than words can express.

About Tom and his band’s plans for their second America’s Got Talent audition, he didn’t reveal much but hinted, “I still don’t know the specifics and we’re unsure of the exact date. So, I’ll find out along with everyone else. I’m just thrilled to have another chance to perform there.

Tom has a message for fans who might be taken aback by his shift from being at the heart of the ‘Scandoval’ drama on ‘VPR’ to becoming a beloved contestant on ‘AGT’.

He confided that it had been quite challenging, but he appreciated your company throughout. Here’s hoping we perform admirably and make you proud. Best of luck to us!

He admitted it was tough, but he valued your companionship. May we excel and make you feel proud. Wishing us success and good fortune.

For season 20, contestants face a lengthy journey before they get to perform for the panel of judges consisting of Howie Mandel, Mel B, Sofía Vergara, and Simon Cowell. NBCUniversal’s director of unscripted formats, Theresa Graham, shared in 2022 that open call auditions are conducted virtually to reach a wider audience. Anyone can register for an audition with the casting team and producers, and if they believe a candidate is promising, they advance them to the executive producers. If approved, the act then proceeds to audition before the judges, and the process continues from there. Aspiring participants may choose to try out through in-person or virtual open calls or by submitting a video audition.

Make sure to set your time limits! As per the audition rules, contestants are allowed to demonstrate their talents for about 90 seconds during the open auditions. However, it’s important to keep in mind that the producers retain the ability to adjust audition durations as needed.

Indeed, a good number of things are involved, to be precise. Even though numerous performances often involve open flames, the regulations clearly state that “fire and intricate stage setups are not permitted during open auditions.” Likewise, participants must complete an Animal Information Form and bring their pet’s vaccination records if their act features an animal. Furthermore, according to the rules, items such as coolers (except for medical reasons), fireworks, weapons, sharp tools, mace/pepper spray, illegal substances, alcohol, props using fire or pyrotechnics are strictly prohibited.

In the rules of “America’s Got Talent”, contestants who advance to the judges’ round won’t have to stress about covering their travel costs, whether it’s by plane, train, bus, or even gas money if they’re driving locally. They also receive hotel lodging and a daily budget for meals or other necessary expenses during this phase of the competition.

As per the guidelines for America’s Got Talent auditions, the show doesn’t offer hair and makeup assistance during the judges’ round, but competitors should be prepared to appear on camera. However, these services are available for later rounds in the series. Notably, AGT’s makeup artist Tonia Green shared on Instagram that they worked with numerous contestants on season 19.

Contestants on this show get a chance to practice their acts during rehearsals, but that’s not all they work on. As Sofie Dossi, who was a contestant on three seasons of America’s Got Talent, explained in a 2024 YouTube video, there’s also what’s called a “results rehearsal.” This is to ensure everyone knows where to go if they are eliminated or make it through, and for the staff to sort out lighting and camera angles.

The top winner of America’s Got Talent receives a million dollars as their grand prize, but they don’t get the full sum immediately. Instead, they can either accept a forty-year financial annuity, which means they’d receive approximately $25,000 per year before taxes, or they can opt to receive a lump sum that represents the present value of this annuity.
