The lights have officially dimmed on Tom Sandoval’s time on America’s Got Talent.
The Tom Sandoval & the Most Extras frontman and his band were eliminated from the show on Aug. 20.
The former star of “Vanderpump Rules,” aged 43, along with his cover band, learned their outcome as only two groups remained in contention for a spot in the semifinals. However, when host Terry Crews failed to announce their names, Tom and his band promptly left the stage.
On August 19, following their rendition of “Blinding Lights,” a popular song by The Weeknd, the band’s performance garnered a mix of positive and negative feedback from the judges, along with a resounding buzz of the buzzer.
Sofia Vergara offered heartfelt compliments for the recent performance, emphasizing its entertaining qualities.
The Modern Family alum expressed that they enjoyed the dancing. They appreciated the band and the music. Although the sound quality wasn’t great, they found it highly entertaining.
During the show, Simon Cowell expressed his appreciation for both Tom and the band, but he also shared his honest opinion about their performance. He stated, “While you’re considering your judgment, I must admit that this performance didn’t sound fantastic to me. From where I was seated, it seemed a bit off. I’m sorry to say it, but I found it less than satisfactory.
Mel B expressed similar feelings as Sofia, saying, “You add a touch of joy to our lives, and your dedication is impeccable. Your dance moves, my friend, are absolutely fantastic.
And despite Simon’s concerns, Howie Mandel saw a bright future for the band.
He mentioned that spectators would likely appreciate you performing at their weddings, parties, or social events. Essentially, your enjoyable nature aligns with the show’s theme of fun-loving individuals.
To be completely honest, I was so caught up in the moment during our performance on stage with Simon as the judge, I honestly didn’t realize when he delivered his stern critique and that fateful buzzer slam right smack dab in the middle of it all.
Even though he first appeared on the stage in June, Tom spoke about the significance of winning America’s Got Talent and its accompanying $1 million reward for him and his group.
He expressed to TopMob News that it would be incredibly exciting, “What an incredible thing that would be!” he said. Given the fierce competition among numerous talented acts, the chances are very slim, but should it happen, both the band and himself would undoubtedly feel immense joy.
He added about potentially taking home the prize, “I would love that, definitely.”
America’s Got Talent airs every Tuesday at 8 PM sharp on NBC. If you’re curious to discover some fascinating facts about this popular show, delve deeper into our content…
As a dedicated follower, I embark on a journey long before stepping up to face the esteemed panel of judges – Howie Mandel, Mel B, Sofía Vergara, and Simon Cowell – for season 20. In an effort to reach as many talents as possible, NBCUniversal organizes open call auditions, both in-person and virtually. With a simple sign-up, anyone can present their act to the casting team and producers. If they deem me worthy, I progress to audition before the executive producers. Once approved, the stage is set for my performance before the judges, who will determine if I move forward. It’s an exciting process that I eagerly anticipate.
Make sure you’ve got your timers ready! As per the audition rules, applicants are given approximately 90 seconds to exhibit their talents during the open auditions. Nevertheless, it should be noted that producers retain the power to adjust the audition durations if necessary.
Indeed, several things are involved, to be precise. Although many performances involve open flames such as candles, it’s important to note that the regulations explicitly forbid “open use of fire and special rigging during open auditions.” If a performance includes animals, competitors must also submit an Animal Information Form along with the animal’s vaccination records. The rules further prohibit various items like “coolers (except in medical cases), fireworks, weapons, sharp tools, self-defense sprays like mace/pepper spray, illegal substances, alcohol, and props that require fire or pyrotechnics.
After passing the early stages of America’s Got Talent, contestants will present themselves before the judges without having to cover the costs of travel or accommodation. This includes potential airfare for long distances, transportation reimbursement like bus, train, or gas for nearby locations, hotel stays, and a daily allowance for meals and additional expenses.
As a die-hard AGT fan, I’ve got to spill the beans about something that might interest my fellow competitors! You know how it goes – when you step onto the AGT stage, it’s all about showcasing your talent, and that includes looking your best. Now, But don’t worry, we need to be “camera ready” anyway. However, once you make it past this round, the series hooks us up with professional hair and makeup services!
In fact, during season 19, AGT’s very own makeup artist Tonia Green shared on Instagram that their team worked tirelessly with hundreds of contestants – now that’s dedication to making every performance shine!
During rehearsals, contestants not only practice their acts, but there’s more to it as well. As Sofie Dossi, a former contestant on America’s Got Talent, explained in a 2024 YouTube video, everyone participates in what’s called a results rehearsal. This is so that everyone knows their place if they get eliminated or move forward, and for the staff to adjust lighting and camera angles.
The top prize in America’s Got Talent is $1 million, but does the winner get the entire amount immediately? Actually, the prize can be received either as a financial annuity spread out over 40 years or as a lump sum equal to the present value of that annuity.”
“The ultimate prize in America’s Got Talent is $1 million. However, the champion doesn’t receive this amount all at once; instead, they can opt for either receiving the money gradually over 40 years or taking a lump sum that represents the present value of those annual payments.
