Crystal Dynamics, the team behind the upcoming Tomb Raider game, has announced it is reducing its workforce.
The company announced nearly 30 layoffs in a LinkedIn post, affecting multiple teams and projects. They explained the cuts are part of a plan to reorganize and prepare the business for future growth.
We’ve made some difficult decisions to ensure the continued development of our main Tomb Raider game and to position our studio for future game projects. These changes reflect the evolving landscape of the gaming industry.
Crystal Dynamics has now had three rounds of layoffs this year. According to IGN, 17 employees were let go in March, and more jobs were cut after the cancellation of the Perfect Dark game.
A new Tomb Raider game is in development, and Amazon will be publishing it. However, not much is known about the game or how far along development is at this point.
Job cuts have unfortunately become very frequent in the video game industry over the past few years, affecting both large and small companies.
