Lena Dunham’s newest comedy series, titled “Too Much,” unfolds the tale of a rapid-paced romance between Jessica (portrayed by Megan Stalter), an American smitten with all things British, and Felix (Will Sharpe), a laid-back Londoner. The narrative is interwoven with music, significantly contributing to their love story.
The show drew its loose origins from creator Lena Dunham’s real-life encounter with Luis Felber when she relocated to the U.K., leading to both characters, Felber and his on-screen twin Felix, being portrayed as accomplished musicians.
Felix plays live shows alone at various London pubs and also performs with his housemate Auggie (Prasanna Puwanarajah) and others in a band, yet he finds it challenging to balance his finances when compared to the successful marketing professional, Jess.
In interviews, Dunham has pointed out that the characters of Jessica and Felix differ significantly from herself and Felber. However, it’s worth mentioning that her current spouse is part of a band called Attawalpa, which creates the original music for Too Much.
The show additionally includes several well-known licensed songs, such as “London Bridge” by Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas, for which Netflix produced a fresh music video starring Stalter to celebrate its premiere on the platform.
