Toonami Classic Anime to Replace Adult Swim Lost Series

I’ve been a huge fan of Toonami and Adult Swim for years, and it’s been amazing watching them both evolve! Even though Toonami actually started before Adult Swim, it ended up becoming a part of it back in 2012 – which honestly saved Toonami from getting cancelled. Both blocks have seen some big shifts recently, and it looks like things are changing again soon. With Adult Swim losing a major show this month, it’s awesome to hear that a classic Toonami series is stepping up to fill the gap!

As we reported earlier this week, the show Futurama will no longer be airing on Adult Swim after December 26th. Now, Dragon Ball Z Kai is stepping in to fill the slot, starting December 29th, giving anime fans a new early-morning fix. Futurama isn’t the only show leaving this year – King of the Hill also recently departed from Cartoon Network. While there hasn’t been an official explanation for these changes, it’s possible Cartoon Network is looking for more affordable programming options, like Dragon Ball Z Kai and Home Movies.

The Kai of it All

If you’re new to Dragon Ball Z Kai, it’s more than just an updated version of the original Dragon Ball Z anime with improved visuals. It also features a completely new English dub. Kai streamlines the story by removing some of the anime-only content and staying closer to the original manga created by Akira Toriyama. While not a total remake of the Saiyan, Frieza, Cell, and Majin Buu arcs, Dragon Ball Z was incredibly popular with anime fans for many reasons.

Toonami, now on Adult Swim, has been bringing back a lot of popular anime shows. Right now, you can watch Dragon Ball Daima, a new series that continues the story after Dragon Ball Z but before Dragon Ball Super. But it’s not just Goku! Toonami also features other exciting action anime like Bleach: Thousand Year-Blood War, Blue Exorcist, Mashle: Magic And Muscles, One Piece, Dandadan, and Naruto.

Even though some popular shows are leaving Adult Swim, the network isn’t going anywhere. Several of its biggest hits, like Rick and Morty and Smiling Friends, have already been renewed for multiple seasons, so fans still have plenty to look forward to.
