For the first time, The Big O made its debut on Cartoon Network in 1999, produced by Sunrise – the same team behind Mobile Suit Gundam from Bandai Namco. The main character, Roger Smith, resembles “anime Batman” most outside of the Caped Crusader’s own anime adaptations, with his giant mech, known as the Big O, being a notable feature. On August 28th this month, Super Robot Wars Y made its debut on consoles and PCs, introducing the franchise’s newest addition with a host of significant mechs from series such as The Big O, G Gundam, the original Gundam series, Code Geass, Gundam Wing, Gundam: The Witch From Mercury, and even Jet Jaguar from Godzilla. Regrettably, the DLC featuring Roger Smith and his mech does not have a set release date yet, but Bandai Namco has assured us that it will be available soon.
If you’re not acquainted with the “Super Robot Wars” series, it initially emerged in 1991 under the title “Super Robot Wars.” The game franchise follows a model similar to what we now call “gacha,” and over time, it has crafted an intriguing narrative where iconic anime robot pilots engage in fierce battles against each other. This unique crossover is unparalleled in the world of video games.
Regarding a potential new “Big O” anime series, this hasn’t been officially suggested yet. Originally, the anime ended controversially, with the story concluding prematurely, leaving fans unsatisfied about Roger Smith and his team.
