10.) Controversial Adult Swim Anime Renewed For Two Additional Seasons

This year, Adult Swim revealed that Ninja Kamui will return for both a second and third season. The anime, originally created for Cartoon Network, gained popularity quickly, though some viewers were surprised by its shift towards robot battles rather than traditional ninja action. The renewal was announced at the Annecy Festival, and while a release date for season two hasn’t been announced yet, Adult Swim continues to support the show despite its controversial direction.
9.) Solo Leveling Producer Teases Good News About Season 3

Despite the huge popularity of the first two seasons of the Solo Leveling anime, A-1 Pictures hasn’t officially announced a third season yet. Luckily, there’s still plenty of story material available from the original webcomic, as well as a sequel series called Solo Leveling Ragnarok. Back in April, the anime’s producer, Atsushi Kaneko, hinted at good news on social media, but it wasn’t about a new season. However, many fans expect an announcement about Jinwoo Sung’s return will happen soon.
8.) Star Wars Introduces The Jedi Version of Darth Vader (And He’s Even More Terrifying)

This exciting new Star Wars story has a connection to anime. Disney+ recently released the third season of Star Wars: Visions, an anthology series that reimagines the Star Wars universe through the lens of different anime studios. The season began with an episode called “The Duel: Payback,” which brought back a popular character from the first season—a wandering samurai. Animated by Kamikaze Douga, this character shared similarities with Darth Vader, but had left the dark side. While a fourth season hasn’t been announced yet, Visions demonstrates how well the anime style can adapt to any fictional world.
7.) Black Clover Hypes 2025 Return With Special New Year’s Promo
One of the first announcements of 2025 came from Black Clover, with a special promotional video. Creator Yuki Tabata released the video to build excitement for both the manga’s ending and the anime’s eventual return, playfully reimagining the character Asta and highlighting important moments from the manga. At Jump Festa this year, Black Clover officially announced that new anime episodes will arrive in 2026, as the manga enters its final arc. It’s shaping up to be a huge year for Asta and the series.
6.) Dragon Ball Daima Reveals Official Name For Goku’s New Super Saiyan Form

The new anime series, Dragon Ball Daima, has had a huge impact on the Dragon Ball universe, and it’s been a major topic of conversation even without a second season confirmed. The biggest news in 2025 was the reveal of Goku’s most powerful new form: Super Saiyan 4. He unlocked this transformation during a battle with the Demon King Gomah, and Vegeta also achieved Super Saiyan 3 for the very first time. If Dragon Ball Super continues with its manga, these new forms will likely be important in future storylines.
5.) Netflix Just Released Its Controversial New Live-Action Manga Adaptation

This year in May, Netflix released a live-action adaptation of the anime Kakegurui, titled BET. The ten-episode series was popular enough to earn a second season, which doesn’t have a release date yet. The show is based on a manga and anime where students’ social standing is determined by gambling, often with serious consequences. Luckily for fans, the original manga is still being published, giving the series plenty of source material to draw from.
4.) Crunchyroll Just Dropped Its Darkest Anime in Years

Crunchyroll released a compelling, but often overlooked, anime series this past summer called Takopi’s Original Sin. It tells the story of an alien who comes to Earth to make people happy, but finds a challenge in Shizuka, a young girl who is severely bullied. The series can be difficult to watch at times, but the first season is currently available for streaming on Crunchyroll. According to Crunchyroll, the show follows the cheerful alien Takopi as he tries to cheer up Shizuka, a lonely fourth grader, using magical gadgets. However, Takopi soon discovers that bringing true happiness is more complex than he thought.
3.) Demon Slayer Returns to TV With Special Anime Release

2025 was a huge year for Demon Slayer. The first movie in a planned trilogy, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle, became the highest-grossing anime film ever. To get fans ready, Japanese television aired the entire anime series, starting with the Mugen Train Arc and continuing through the arcs featuring Rengoku, the Entertainment District, Swordsmith Village, and Hashira Training. While the release date of the next Demon Slayer movie is still unknown, it’s likely that future films could surpass the success of Infinity Castle.
2.) Black Clover Finally Sets a Date For Its Big Spring Return

It wasn’t unexpected when Black Clover paused publication – many manga artists need breaks to rest or handle personal matters. The series will resume in Weekly Shonen Jump on May 2nd, continuing the story towards its conclusion. Though the final chapter hasn’t been released, 2025 already brought some major highlights for the series. With the manga likely ending in 2026 and the anime making a comeback, Asta’s journey is far from over. And topping the list of the year’s biggest anime stories is…
1.) The Beginning After The End Fans Start Petition to Cancel Controversial Anime

The anime adaptation of The Beginning After The End premiered in April, but many fans were disappointed with the result. Viewers felt the animation quality from Studio A-Cat didn’t live up to the original story, and over ten thousand people signed a petition expressing their frustration. The petition calls for the anime to be canceled and completely remade, with fans arguing that the current adaptation is a poor representation of the source material and disrespectful to its fanbase. One fan wrote that the anime ‘degrades the epic power fantasy’ of the original and ‘smears the reputation of peerless fiction’.
