It’s hard to believe the PlayStation 5 has been out for five years, especially remembering the initial shortages and all the excitement around its launch. But looking back at the amazing games released for the console, it’s clear we’ve had some truly unforgettable experiences. Here’s a list of the top 30 best PS5 games, starting with…
30. Until Dawn Remake
While the remake doesn’t quite live up to the original – particularly in its music choices and some early lighting – it does offer significant improvements in performance and character detail, plus new content and more realistic death scenes. Hopefully, this remake will inspire people to play the original and appreciate what made it special. At the very least, it’s an improvement over the movie adaptation.
29. Rise of the Rōnin
When it first came out, Rise of the Rōnin was often compared to Ghost of Tsushima, but it still has a lot to offer despite a somewhat weak story. The combat is excellent – you’d expect that from the creators of Nioh – and the unique bayonet weapon, which lets you fight up close and at a distance, is a standout feature. While it might not have had the same development budget, Rise of the Rōnin is impressively ambitious, offering a wide range of factions, choices, and complex combat options.
28. Sackboy: A Big Adventure
Although the future of LittleBigPlanet is uncertain, Sackboy: A Big Adventure offered a fun alternative. With more ways to move around, and familiar tools like the grappling hook, it was a charming experience, particularly when played with a friend. It didn’t revolutionize the platforming genre, but it was still a delightful journey through Craftworld.
27. The Nioh Collection
The Nioh Collection bundles two fantastic games, all their downloadable content, and updates for a huge amount of challenging action RPG gameplay. If you’re looking for a tough but rewarding experience, this is it! The collection showcases Team Ninja’s evolution after Ninja Gaiden, combining fast-paced combat with the solid foundations of Souls-like games, and a more realistic feel. While collecting loot isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, it’s a core part of the experience.
26. Mafia: The Old Country

As a big fan, I always wished we’d gotten a bit more clarity on exactly how Mafia: The Old Country connected to the other games – beyond knowing it was a prequel with a few familiar faces. But honestly, it was such a welcome return to what I loved about the series! The story was gripping, the characters felt real, and it really dug into some interesting themes. Plus, Sicily looked absolutely gorgeous to explore, which was a huge bonus!
25. Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered
Putting aside the jokes about remastering a game that wasn’t very old, Guerrilla Games clearly invested a lot of effort and money into updating Horizon Zero Dawn. They significantly improved the environments to match the visual quality of Forbidden West, and even re-recorded dialogue to enhance and rework cutscenes. Thankfully, the core gameplay remains just as fun as it always was.
24. Demon’s Souls Remake
It’s frustrating that Bluepoint spent years working on a live-service game, but at least it led to the highly anticipated remake of Demon’s Souls. While some longtime fans might disagree with certain visual updates and how they affect the game’s mood, this remake successfully brings the classic FromSoftware title to modern audiences, proving its enduring quality.
23. Sword of the Sea
Ever wanted to glide through beautiful landscapes on a magical sword, uncovering a mysterious past in just a few hours? Sword of the Sea might be exactly what you’re looking for—though it could also leave you scratching your head. Either way, it’s a smooth mix of snowboarding, surfing, and jumping challenges, with a good pace and plenty of unexpected moments.
22. Returnal

Housemarque, the studio behind the thrilling game Returnal, has had an incredible evolution. Despite initial doubts about the market for arcade-style shooters, they’ve created one of the most exciting action games ever. Returnal is a standout title, featuring a challenging yet beautifully strange world. While its unique take on the rogue-like genre might not appeal to all players, it’s hard to beat when it comes to intense, fast-paced action and complex bullet patterns.
21. Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart really highlights the incredible speed of the PS5’s storage. The game uses portals, or ‘rifts,’ in a way that creates a unique and exciting adventure for the series. But even without considering the impressive technology, it’s simply a fantastic platformer, offering fun movement, engaging combat, and a lot of charm thanks to its main characters.
20. Helldivers 2
Sony’s only real hit with its ongoing service games is Helldivers 2, and it’s not hard to see why. The game came seemingly out of nowhere and quickly became incredibly popular thanks to its fast-paced, cooperative gameplay that’s simple to pick up but difficult to stop playing. It’s grown into a massive experience with tons of weapons, enemies, and missions. While the game has had some technical problems, the fun of teaming up with friends and wearing cool armor inspired by games like Killzone and Halo makes it all worthwhile.
19. Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2
Last year, Microsoft started releasing its own games on PlayStation 5. But this year, a truly memorable character – Senua – returned to the platform where her story began. Her original game first launched on PS4 before becoming available on Xbox. Essentially, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II delivers a similar experience to the first game, but with significantly improved and stunning graphics, and it’s effective despite feeling familiar.
18. Absolum

Absolum delivers top-notch beat ’em up action with surprisingly deep upgrades and a world that changes based on your choices – a perfect fit for the genre and the story. It’s visually stunning, and the soundtrack is fantastic, featuring work from many talented composers. If you enjoyed Streets of Rage 4, Absolum will likely exceed your expectations.
17. Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater
Following the successful revival of Silent Hill, it was Metal Gear Solid‘s turn for a remake, starting with the very first game in the series. Delta: Snake Eater introduced some great improvements, like a new camera angle, updated graphics, and overall enhanced gameplay, but it intentionally stayed very close to the original. Whether you appreciate that faithfulness or not, it’s still a remarkable remake of a true classic.
16. The Last of Us Part 2: Remastered
While The Last of Us Part 2 wasn’t originally made for the PS5, and there have been a lot of re-releases lately, it remains a truly excellent game. Its story and surprising twists still spark passionate debate. The game expertly blends challenging survival elements with smooth, engaging gameplay, all set within expansive environments and thrilling action sequences. The dark, post-apocalyptic world remains incredibly immersive. Plus, with the addition of the No Return roguelike mode and other extras, this version offers even more value.
15. Borderlands 4
It’s a solid game when you can pick up a new Borderlands title and think, ‘That was pretty good.’ This new installment keeps the exciting gunplay of Borderlands 3 but tells a completely different story. The biggest draws are its huge world, filled with things to do, and the extensive options for customizing your character’s abilities. While the looter shooter genre might feel overdone, especially at this size, Borderlands 4 is still enjoyable if you like spending time collecting loot and leveling up.
14. Forza Horizon 5

For a long time, PlayStation 5 owners have been told how amazing Forza Horizon 5 is. With over 900 cars, incredibly detailed environments based on Mexico, and tons of things to do, it’s a huge game. But despite all the complex features and realistic driving, at its heart, Playground Games’ racing game is simply a dream come true for anyone who loves cars and wants to have fun.
13. Gran Turismo 7
Gran Turismo 7 is arguably the most beautiful and impressive game Polyphony Digital has ever created, though it hasn’t been without its issues. Despite the controversy, it still offers the best racing simulation experience of this generation, especially considering the problems with Forza Motorsport. Numerous updates, including the upcoming Spec 3 update, have only improved the game and made it a truly worthwhile experience.
12. Silent Hill f
After successfully rebooting the series, Konami aimed to create a new Silent Hill game that was both enjoyable and genuinely scary. They took a bold approach by bringing in Ryukishi07 to write the story and kera to design the monsters, all set in a Japanese countryside town in the 1960s. Despite some criticism of the gameplay, Silent Hill f is a must-play horror game this year.
11. Days Gone Remastered
Even without a sequel, Deacon St. John is back! Days Gone Remastered is now available on PS5, bringing all the features fans enjoyed in the original game, but with enhanced graphics and much faster loading. It also includes new ways to play with Permadeath and Speedrun modes, and a completely new Horde Assault mode that offers an arcade-style challenge against massive waves of enemies, complete with its own leveling system.
10. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

Insomniac’s sequel to the popular Spider-Man game is a significant improvement, offering a slightly more mature story while maintaining a similar length. It builds upon the original in impressive ways, with more diverse gameplay options, extensive customization, and a huge selection of suits. The expanded open world, now including Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens, is stunning and feels incredibly smooth as you swing through the city at high speed.
9. Astro Bot
Astro Bot is a brilliantly designed platformer with gorgeous visuals and a charming style. It delivers everything great about the genre – excellent levels and gameplay – without any unnecessary extras, and it cleverly nods to PlayStation’s past. It’s a masterpiece, even if it’s not as massive as some of Sony’s biggest games. Its incredible heart makes it a must-play exclusive. And it currently stands as the best game on the PS5…
8. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Sandfall Interactive’s debut game, Clair Obscur, has the potential to become one of the greatest RPGs ever made. It truly excels in every important aspect of the genre. Players can explore beautiful and imaginative worlds, become invested in a compelling story with characters they’ll remember, and enjoy a uniquely satisfying combat system that blends turn-based strategy with real-time action. And the music is simply phenomenal – if you haven’t heard it yet, don’t wait any longer!
7. God of War Ragnarok
Santa Monica Studio, the team behind the Ragnarok game, is known for delivering epic conclusions, and this title is no different. It explores complex ideas like family and betrayal, features huge and dangerous new worlds to explore, and offers even more impressive combat possibilities than before. Many consider Ragnarok to be the studio’s greatest achievement, and they’ve made it even better by adding a free, expansive rogue-lite expansion called Valhalla as a post-story epilogue.
6. Black Myth: Wukong
Most games that look as incredible as Black Myth: Wukong struggle to live up to the hype, but this one makes it seem effortless. Beyond its beautiful visuals, the game features exciting combat and truly memorable boss fights. Wukong isn’t just a fantastic action RPG; it also showcases the impressive skill of game developers in China.
5. Horizon Forbidden West: Complete Edition

Guerrilla Games definitely delivered on expanding everything players loved about Horizon Zero Dawn in Horizon Forbidden West. The sequel features a huge increase in content – more machines to fight, weapons to use, outfits to collect, things to do, and side stories to experience, all with improved graphics and a larger world. It even surprised players with unexpected story twists and included a highly anticipated boss battle in the Burning Shores expansion. Even after nearly four years, Horizon Forbidden West is still a captivating open-world game.
4. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
Leaving the city of Midgar in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth completely changed how you explore the game’s world. It added tons of new things to do – like mini-games, optional activities, and side quests starring your favorite characters – all within a vast, open world. Plus, the combat, summons, and story are all significantly improved. While some parts of the game can feel a little lengthy, for fans of Final Fantasy 7 and RPGs in general, Rebirth is an incredibly impressive experience.
3. Elden Ring + Shadow of the Erdtree
It’s no surprise that Elden Ring and its Shadow of the Erdtree expansion continue to be incredibly successful. While the game isn’t perfect, especially when it comes to performance, it’s a shining example of excellent open-world design and thrilling combat. From the breathtaking view of Limgrave to overcoming Stormveil Castle, and the terrifying landscapes of Caelid, Elden Ring creates unforgettable moments – like your first encounter with the Furnace Golem in the Land of Shadow. Clearly inspired by games like Breath of the Wild and Dark Souls, Elden Ring delivers a truly magical experience that few games can match.
2. Ghost of Yōtei
Many revenge stories explore the limits people will reach, but Ghost of Yōtei took a unique approach, creating a richer and more complex story. It also significantly improved upon Ghost of Tsushima in almost every way – from the seamless exploration of its open world and the wide range of things to do, to the satisfying and fluid combat. Ultimately, it’s a brilliant game and a strong successor to the 2020 original.
1. Death Stranding 2: On The Beach

Hideo Kojima is known for his distinctive storytelling, and Death Stranding 2 delivers on that front with even more emotional depth and memorable characters. Beyond the story, the game significantly improves on the original’s gameplay, offering options for stealth, action-packed combat, and the unique traversal mechanics. Visually, it’s one of the best-looking games available, and it all culminates in a genuinely moving and impactful ending.
