Top 7 Anime Characters That Need to Return

Lots of anime series have run for years, but many characters from those shows have faded into obscurity. Popular figures from franchises like One Piece and Dragon Ball, among others, haven’t been seen or heard from in a while. With so many anime characters out there, we at egmr.ru decided it was time to remember some of these forgotten heroes and villains – and point out that they deserve to return! Luckily, there was no shortage of characters to choose from.

7.) Dragon Ball’s Future Trunks

The last time we saw Future Trunks, he was fighting alongside Goku and Vegeta against the evil Zamasu. Although they defeated Goku Black, Trunks’ victory felt empty because his entire timeline was destroyed. He and Mai ended up in a completely new future, where they might even meet alternate versions of themselves. Since then, Trunks hasn’t appeared in any major storylines, like the Tournament of Power or the arcs featuring Moro, Granolah, or the Super Hero saga. Fans are curious to know what happened to him and how he’s adjusted to living in a future that isn’t his original one.

6.) Hunter x Hunter’s Gon

It feels like forever since we’ve seen Gon and Killua! The manga hasn’t featured them much either, and honestly, it’s been a while since Yoshihiro Togashi showed us what they’ve been up to. Right now, the story is mostly following Kurapika and his role in the Succession Contest Arc, which is cool, but I’m really hoping we get to see Gon again soon in Shonen Jump! Everyone’s eager for the anime to return, of course, but getting Gon back in the manga first would be amazing!

5.) One Piece’s Bonclay

As One Piece nears its end in both the manga and anime, creator Eiichiro Oda doesn’t have much time left to revisit older characters. Bon Clay, a former member of Baroqueworks, is one such character fans haven’t seen in a while. Initially an enemy, Bon Clay eventually became an ally thanks to the Straw Hat crew. He hasn’t appeared in One Piece since episode 451, where he was the Queen of Newkama Land, and many viewers would love an update on his situation before the series concludes. Fortunately, the Netflix live-action adaptation has already cast Bon Clay, and he’s expected to appear in season three.

4.) Outlaw Star’s Gene Starwind

It feels a bit like wishful thinking, but we’d be thrilled to see the characters from Outlaw Star return. Many anime fans consider it a classic, and with so many revivals happening now, it’s disappointing that we haven’t seen more from Gene Starwind and his universe. While the original anime had a definitive ending, it’s been a long time, and there are still plenty of stories to tell. Outlaw Star gained a large following thanks to its broadcast on Cartoon Network’s Toonami, meaning a lot of Western fans would welcome a continuation.

3.) Gundam Wing’s Heero Yuy

Similar to Outlaw Star, Gundam Wing feels like a story with untapped potential. Thanks to Toonami, Gundam Wing became a hugely popular part of the Gundam franchise. Heero Yuy is a particularly compelling Gundam pilot, and there’s a great story waiting to be adapted into an anime. That story is found in the novel series New Mobile Report Gundam Wing: Frozen Teardrop, which brings Heero back to a changed world. Given that the Gundam universe often revisits its past, hopefully, Gundam Wing will get another anime adaptation someday.

2.) Tokyo Ghoul’s Ken Kaneki

It’s been a while since we’ve seen the anime Tokyo Ghoul and its main character, Ken Kaneki. The last adaptation was the live-action Tokyo Ghoul S in 2019. While Kaneki recently appeared as a character in the video game Dead By Daylight, fans have been eagerly waiting for a new anime series. Many feel the original anime didn’t fully capture the story from the manga, and they hope for a complete adaptation that does justice to the creator, Sui Ishida’s, work.

1.) Dragon Ball’s Cell

Some fans might question this pick, especially considering Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, but bringing Cell back isn’t a shortcut. The movie introduced Orange Piccolo and Gohan Beast, along with Cell Max – a powerful being, but a different character than the original Perfect Cell. Dragon Ball has repeatedly revived villains like Frieza and Majin Buu, and it’s time Cell received the same treatment. Though the Dragon Ball Super manga’s future is uncertain, fans are hoping for a proper resurrection of this classic villain.
