Top 7 Fox Animated Series That Need a Revival

Cartoon Network has produced many original animated shows, but Fox has consistently been a major force in creating animated series for traditional television. From popular adult comedies like Family Guy, The Simpsons, and Bob’s Burgers, to the shows that first appeared on Fox Kids, the network boasts a large collection of animated programming. However, not all of these shows lasted for many seasons, and several beloved animated series deserve a revival.

7.) Eek! The Cat

Eek! The Cat first aired on Fox’s Saturday morning cartoons in 1992 and ran for five seasons, following the silly adventures of its main character. The show stood out with its unique animation style and humor that was a bit bolder than most kids’ shows at the time. It’s frustrating that it’s so hard to watch now. A reboot of Eek! could appeal to kids again, or even to adults, and the show definitely deserves another chance.

6.) Spider-Man: The Animated Series

Spider-Man’s 1994 animated series was a hugely popular Saturday morning cartoon, right up there with the X-Men. The show ran for five seasons and followed Peter Parker’s adventures with friends and foes. Given the recent success of the X-Men ’97 revival on Disney+, bringing Spider-Man back in a similar style feels like a sure win – especially since Peter and Mary Jane made a cameo appearance in X-Men ’97. The original Spider-Man: The Animated Series ended with a major cliffhanger, leaving fans eager to see this version of the superhero continue on Disney+. And good news – unlike some older shows, all five seasons are currently available to stream on Disney+.

5.) Silver Surfer: The Animated Series

I remember watching the Silver Surfer cartoon on Fox Kids back in the day, but it often gets overshadowed when people talk about 90s Marvel shows. It only lasted one season, which is a shame, because it didn’t quite reach the popularity of Spider-Man or the X-Men. But with the Marvel Cinematic Universe being so huge right now, I think it’s a perfect time to bring the Silver Surfer back. The original series ended on a real cliffhanger, leaving Norrin Rad’s fate uncertain. Considering how popular Thanos became thanks to the Avengers movies, a new animated series focusing on the cosmic side of Marvel – and starring the Silver Surfer – feels like a guaranteed hit.

4.) The Tick

I’m a huge fan of The Tick, and while the recent live-action show on Amazon was fun, nothing beats the original animated series from Fox Kids! It really put The Tick on the map, running for three seasons after it first aired in 1994. What I loved about it was how it mixed over-the-top superhero action with really funny, everyday situations. Honestly, even thirty years later, people still talk about how great it was, and I think bringing the cartoon back now, when we’re all obsessed with superheroes, would be amazing!

3.) The Critic

Though it started on ABC, The Critic became a Fox original for its second season. Created by many of the same talented people behind The Simpsons, the show’s humor still holds up today. Fans are eager for a revival because the key creative players – Jon Lovitz, the voice of Jay Sherman, and creator Al Jean – are both enthusiastic about returning. With so many animated shows being brought back, hopefully we’ll see the loud and opinionated film critic make a comeback soon.

2.) The Great North

Recently canceled after five seasons, The Great North was a genuinely funny animated series that deserved to be mentioned alongside classics like The Simpsons, Family Guy, and American Dad. Its animation style was similar to Bob’s Burgers, but the show developed a charming and distinct look, paired with a lively and talkative cast. Although the final episode nicely concluded the storyline by circling back to the beginning, the creators have expressed interest in continuing the series if given the opportunity. Many viewers felt the show had the potential to run for many more seasons, just like other popular, adult-oriented animated shows on Fox.

1.) Axe Cop

Despite lasting only two seasons, Nick Offerman’s show, Axe Cop, has a lot of untapped potential. The series began as a webcomic with a unique concept: a five-year-old creates the story, and a professional animates it, resulting in wonderfully bizarre adventures of the main character, a police officer. Because of this creative approach, the show, which first aired on Fox in 2013, can explore virtually any storyline. In a time when Adult Swim is so popular, Axe Cop could be a great way for Fox to strengthen its animation lineup and stay competitive.
