Top Gun: Maverick director’s reboot of beloved 1980s TV series has release date confirmed

Joseph Kosinski, the director behind hits like Top Gun: Maverick and a film about Formula 1 racing, is quickly becoming a favorite for large-scale Hollywood productions. His next movie’s release date has now been officially set.

Universal Pictures has revealed the release date for the new Miami Vice movie, directed by Kosinski. The film, inspired by the original show’s first season and pilot episode, will hit theaters on August 6, 2027.

Currently, the filmmakers haven’t revealed any actors who will be in the movie. However, they’ve begun casting and plan to start filming next year, aiming for a release soon after.

The screenplay is being written by Dan Gilroy, known for *Nightcrawler*, and Eric Singer, who worked on *Top Gun: Maverick*. It’s based on characters first developed by Anthony Yerkovich for the original show.

Having Kosinski involved suggests the film has a strong chance of success, considering how well his previous movies, like Top Gun: Maverick and F1, performed in theaters.

Considering those previous movies had major stars like Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, I’m anticipating some equally big names will sign on to this project. I’ll definitely be following the casting news closely and will let you know as soon as any announcements are made!

Miami Vice was a popular NBC television show that ran from 1984 to 1989. It starred Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas as detectives James ‘Sonny’ Crockett and Ricardo ‘Rico’ Tubbs, who worked together throughout the show’s five seasons.

This movie is the second time the show has been adapted for the big screen. A previous film version came out in 2006, featuring Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx, and was directed by Michael Mann, who also helped create the original TV series.

I remember when the original came out, critics weren’t exactly thrilled. But something funny happened – over the years, it really found an audience. Now it’s a total cult classic with a dedicated following. So, I’m really curious to see how this new take stacks up against something that’s become so beloved.
