There’s no denying the magnetic appeal of Tom Cruise, with his unmatched star power shining brightly, especially considering his current movie is still leading the pack in a powerful streak on streaming platforms. Known for his numerous action roles across various movies and franchises such as the concluded Mission: Impossible series, Jack Reacher, Oblivion, Minority Report, Edge of Tomorrow, and The Mummy (though the latter might be best forgotten), Cruise has a knack for single-handedly selling movies just with his name. However, when paired with an ensemble cast, Oscar-nominated visual effects and editing, and continuing the legacy of an ’80s classic, you get what could arguably be Cruise’s most successful movie ever made. It’s remarkable, then, that this film shows no signs of slowing down on streaming platforms. After all, it’s got the need for speed!
As a movie enthusiast, I can’t help but sing praises about “Top Gun: Maverick” that’s currently streaming on Paramount+. This film has shown why Pete “Maverick” Mitchell was indeed the best pilot to ever come out of Top Gun academy. Ever since its debut on the streaming platform, “Top Gun: Maverick” has been a dominant force, spending an astonishing 845 days in the top 10 list. That’s more than two years! Interestingly enough, Ridley Scott’s 2024 legacy sequel, “Gladiator II”, currently holds the number one spot. But don’t let that fool you; “Top Gun: Maverick” is a close second and truly deserves all the accolades it’s been receiving.
In 2022, the sequel to Top Gun, titled “Top Gun: Maverick,” was an extraordinary hit at the cinema. Directed by Joseph Kosinski (who’s currently working on F1), it raked in over $1.49 billion globally. This movie not only became Tom Cruise’s most lucrative film to date, but Top Gun: Maverick also ranked as the second highest-grossing film of 2022, trailing behind Avatar: The Way of Water, and it set a new record for Paramount Pictures as their highest-grossing movie ever! However, the accolades for Top Gun: Maverick aren’t limited to box office success. It boasts an impressive 96% score on Rotten Tomatoes and an astonishing audience rating of 99%.
In “Top Gun: Maverick,” Tom Cruise reprises his role as the main character, Captain Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, who is now training a new group of Top Gun aviators for an extremely risky mission. Besides Cruise, the movie features Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Lewis Pullman, and Glen Powell in key roles.
‘Top Gun 3’ is Officially In the Works

After the incredible achievement of “Top Gun: Maverick”, everyone is eagerly waiting for Tom Cruise, Jerry Bruckheimer, and Paramount to commence work on the next installment. At present, it’s known as “Top Gun 3”, and it’s officially in the development phase. As per Christopher McQuarrie, who directed “Mission: Impossible” and co-wrote “Top Gun: Maverick”, the storyline for the third movie is already set.
The third installment of Top Gun, titled Top Gun 3, hasn’t received any official news from Paramount lately. Yet, during a recent promotion for F1, director Joseph Kosinski hinted at what fans might anticipate in the upcoming sequel, assuming it doesn’t take another 34 years to hit theaters. “I believe we’ve devised a method to execute this,” Kosinski shared, “not just in terms of the magnitude of our proposal, but the concept itself of the story we’re narrating.” He went on to explain:
Maverick’s predicament transcends personal issues; it’s more like an existential dilemma that overshadows him. To put it delicately, I’m trying not to spoil anything. Essentially, this existential quandary might make Maverick seem insignificant in the grand scheme of things as portrayed in the movie.
