Top Gun: Maverick Revived the Top Gun Franchise
The film was a massive success, bringing in almost $1.5 billion globally despite costing only $177 million to make. It’s therefore not surprising that Paramount is planning a third movie, and they hope to release it much sooner than the 30 years between the last two.
Following the merger of Paramount and Skydance to create Paramount Skydance, new CEO David Ellison stated that a key focus will be making Paramount the top choice for filmmakers and talent globally. He emphasized that supporting talented filmmakers is crucial for creating successful movies, and the company plans to carefully increase the amount of content available on its streaming service and through its studios. Dana Goldberg, another leader at the newly formed company, highlighted that a sequel to Top Gun is a major priority.
