Following the success of the Superman movie, the DC Universe expanded with Peacemaker Season 2, its first live-action TV series. The show successfully transitioned the popular DC Extended Universe program into the new DC Universe continuity and was generally well-received, thanks to James Gunn and his team. While the season finale sparked some debate, the season as a whole received positive feedback, largely due to strong performances from the cast. The actors who played the ’11th Street Kids’ built on the great chemistry they established in Season 1, proving they were perfectly cast, and fans are hoping to see them all return in future projects.
I recently spoke with Freddie Stroma, who played Vigilante in Peacemaker, about his potential future with DC, and honestly, the news isn’t promising. He told me he hasn’t had any conversations about returning, and he seems genuinely in the dark. He wishes he could be mysterious about it, but he truly has no idea if he’ll be back. It sounds like fans shouldn’t hold their breath!
When Could Vigilante Return in the DCU?

James Gunn has stated that there aren’t currently any plans for a third season of Peacemaker, which many expected would be the natural place to bring back the character Vigilante. However, the show being on hold doesn’t mean those characters won’t appear again in the larger DC Universe. The second season ended with the 11th Street Kids creating the Checkmate agency, which will likely play an important role in future DC stories. The finale essentially set the stage for what’s coming in the DCU, including the Man of Tomorrow storyline and beyond, meaning Adrian Chase (Vigilante) could potentially show up anywhere to help a hero.
It’s hard to say when Vigilante might reappear, unless there’s an unexpected return in Man of Tomorrow. Currently, DC doesn’t have any officially announced projects beyond Man of Tomorrow (releasing in July 2027) or any new live-action shows scheduled after Lanterns this summer. However, DC Studios is working on many things, including a second season of Creature Commandos, so it’s possible we could hear Stroma reprise their role as Vigilante in an animated project.
Though fans hope to see Vigilante return, it’s frustrating that there are no current plans. Actor Freddie Stroma really stood out in Peacemaker as Vigilante, becoming a favorite with his funny and unsettling performance. The chemistry between his character and Peacemaker added a surprising amount of heart to the show, perfectly capturing James Gunn’s signature blend of humor and emotion. Despite being so popular in season one, Vigilante felt a little underused in season two, as the show struggled to find a strong storyline for him. Bringing the character back would be a great way to address that, and hopefully it happens soon.
While fans would love to see Vigilante return, his comeback needs to feel organic to the story. It would be disappointing if he didn’t have a meaningful role, especially after Peacemaker Season 2 tried too hard to connect to the wider DC universe and suffered for it. DC Studios needs to strike a better balance going forward. However, with Christopher Smith’s fate left unresolved after his exile, it’s likely Vigilante will reappear eventually.
