Apogee Entertainment and Trigger Happy Interactive have launched their psychological survival horror game, Total Chaos, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC. The game is available now on Steam and the Microsoft Store for $24.99.
Sam Prebble, head of Trigger Happy Interactive, shared that his journey with Total Chaos started nearly twenty years ago when he first created a modification of another game. He never expected to revisit the world of Fort Oasis and turn it into a complete game for PC and consoles. He expressed gratitude to the teams at Apogee, Atari, and Infogrames for their help in making this happen, and invited players to ‘see you on the island,’ advising them to ‘listen carefully to the voice you follow.’
Jeron Moore, executive producer at Apogee Entertainment, explained that Total Chaos represents Apogee’s first venture into survival horror and is a passion project for creator Sam, who was inspired by classic games like DOOM, Duke Nukem 3D, and S.T.A.L.K.E.R., as well as the horror genre in general. The game started as a mod but has evolved into a full, expanded remake. Moore added that Apogee was happy to support Sam again, building on their successful collaboration on Turbo Overkill, to create a truly memorable horror experience with Total Chaos.
Akira Yamaoka, the guest composer, shared that he was very honored to work with Total Chaos on this project. He described the game’s atmosphere as having a strange beauty – a quietness within the chaos that can’t be explained with words, but needs to be felt through the music. He envisions it as an immersive experience, like exploring a hidden world through sound, rather than sight, and hopes players will enjoy it.
Here is an overview of the game, via Apogee Entertainment:
About
Descend into Total Chaos, a gripping terrormare that blurs the line between reality and madness.
I’m dropping into Fort Oasis, and honestly, it’s a ghost town. Used to be a coal mining hotspot, but now it’s just falling apart. The only sound is this weird radio signal, and it’s pulling me towards the old mines in the center of the island. But the deeper I go, the more messed up things get. The paths are all twisted, and I’m starting to uncover some seriously disturbing secrets hidden in the shadows. It’s like the island doesn’t want me to know what happened here.
I’m totally hooked on this game! You basically have to rummage around for anything you can find to build weapons and protect yourself from these terrifying creatures hiding in the dark. As you explore, you find bits and pieces of stories about what happened to Fort Oasis, and honestly, it’s a really creepy mystery. The more you learn, the more you realize things are way worse than you thought, and it’s genuinely unsettling. It’s a game that gets under your skin!
