2021’s Anime Expo generated significant buzz in the anime community, with notable announcements such as Netflix unveiling Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, Steel Ball Run crew for JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure being introduced, and sneak peeks at Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End season two and Chainsaw Man The Movie: The Reze Arc. Throughout the event, egmr.ru was actively present, not just reporting news but also conducting interviews with key figures in the anime industry. During one such interview, Lee Jonh-hui, creator of Tower of God, shared insights about the show’s future and discussed the soccer themes that have characterized this distinctive storyline.
At a gathering attended by Anime News Network, Anime Corner, Screen Rant, ComicBook, and The Beat, J.R. Waugh had an opportunity to interview Lee Jong-hui, commonly known as S.I.U., or Slave In Utero (an intriguing pseudonym considering his penmanship). During the discussion, they touched upon the influence of Tower of God on the manhwa and webtoon industry and some unique aspects of S.I.U.’s creative process.
The Tower of God Interview
In your unique style of incorporating soccer/football players’ names for characters and blending real-life pop culture like Mark Twain with it, I find myself curious: Are there music-related references that I should be on the lookout for, similar to the “One Shot, One Opportunity” game in the anime adaptation and webtoon? I’m simply interested in learning about any other pop culture references we can anticipate encountering.
Lately, I’ve been making an effort to reduce my use of references, particularly in relation to Tower of God where soccer player references are present because it’s a story about battles and certain positions in the game have connections. The tower itself is a diverse setting, reflecting various cultures worldwide, and many of these cultures appreciate soccer/football. If any other similarities arise in the future, I might choose to incorporate them.
Tower of God Season 3?
Last year, the second season of “Tower of God” concluded without any official announcement about a third season. Given the abundance of source material, it’s plausible that we might see another installment of this anime. Although seasons one and two shared a common focus on the tower, they did have distinct differences to set them apart.
The initial season of Tower of God introduced the story of Bam, created by Telecom Animation Film, setting up the rules of this world and explaining why people were climbing the tower. After the anime’s popular premiere, responsibility for both the main character and animation studio shifted. The second season was then produced by The Answer Studio, set several years after the first storyline, introducing a new main character, Ja Wangan.
