‘Tracker’ Just Permanently Replaced 1 Main Character for Season 3

A recent report revealed that a core member of Colter Shaw’s team will be written off of *Tracker* Season 3. The popular CBS drama centers on Colter Shaw (Justin Hartley), a skilled ‘rewardist’ who travels the country finding missing persons. Though he prefers to work alone, Colter depends on a small group for support – including his lawyer friend Renee (Fiona Rene), his handler Velma, and a tech expert named Bobby – to help locate suspects and victims.

In Season 2 of *Tracker*, Colter’s team gained a new member, Randy (Chris Lee), who stepped in temporarily when Bobby had a family matter to attend to. Even after Bobby returned towards the end of the season, Randy stayed on, hinting at a larger part for him in Season 3.

In an interview with TV Line before the start of Season 3 on CBS, *Tracker* showrunner Elwood Reid shared that Randy will return in the new season and will take over Bobby’s duties after Eric Graise leaves the show.

Once it was decided how to address Bobby’s exit, Reid discussed Randy’s storyline for Season 3. He explained that Randy will keep supporting Colter, help Reenie with her legal work, and continue working at her office.

Bobby is comfortable and settled, but Randy is still searching for direction. Reenie is struggling emotionally after a traumatic experience – a security breach at her company, her kidnapping, and her boyfriend being shot. She’s trying to hide how vulnerable she feels, and as a way to feel safer, she asks Randy to help improve her security. This leads to a discussion about Randy potentially staying and working from her office, both with Colter and on cases for her law practice.

The showrunner hinted at the growing connection between Randy and Reenie in Season 3 of *Tracker*, saying their on-screen chemistry was a significant improvement.

When Chris Lee and Fiona Rene work together, it really elevates the show. Everything we’ve recorded with them so far has been fantastic and has significantly improved the overall quality. Now, when Colter reaches out, it feels like he’s joining a project that’s already thriving. I’m intentionally focusing on expanding Fiona’s role and story, because the more developed her world becomes, the better the show will be.

In addition to Eric Graise, Abby McEnany, who played Velma, also left the show before Season 3. As a result, when Season 3 starts, Colter will only have two teammates left: Randy and Reenie.

Reid explained that Velma and Bobby are leaving to pursue other creative opportunities. Expanding Randy’s role will allow the show, *Tracker*, to explore more storylines and develop the world beyond the main location of Colter.

We didn’t remove Velma or Bobby from the show. I just wanted to explore where I could be most creative. Last year, Randy added some great moments with Fiona, and it made me think, ‘What if they worked together regularly?’ Now, with a bigger cast, we can tell more stories and show what Fiona’s life is like outside of helping Colter.

Viewers will find out why Bobby left in the first episode of Season 3, but many are still wondering about Eric Graise’s departure from *Tracker*. Concerns arose after he missed a significant number of episodes in Season 2, leading fans to worry about his character’s future.

During a TV Line interview, Reid shared that Bobby saw a promising chance to expand his cybersecurity business. He clarified that while Bobby is assisting Colter, his primary focus remains running his own company.

He quickly took advantage of a favorable situation. While this doesn’t prevent these individuals from returning, we decided to strengthen and expand Reenie’s workspace.

Randy began working more closely with Colter’s team starting in Season 2, Episode 18 of *Tracker*, when he stationed himself at Bobby’s headquarters to assist Colter and form a hacking partnership. This collaboration was strengthened in Season 2, Episode 17, when Randy actively helped Colter pursue a suspect on a mission.

Reid has confirmed that Reenie and Randy will be sharing an office in Season 3 of *Tracker*, which opens up new possibilities for storylines. This could even lead to a friendship that strengthens the bond within Colter’s team.

I’m really excited for Season 3 of *Tracker*! It’s based on Jeffery Deaver’s novel, *The Never Game*, and will bring back Justin Hartley, Fiona Rene, and Chris Lee, along with a bunch of new faces. It’s set to premiere on CBS on October 19, 2025, and I’ve already marked it on my calendar!

Why Randy’s Bigger Role Is Exciting for Tracker Season 3

I absolutely loved Randy in Season 2 of *Tracker*! He brought such a great energy to the show, and I wasn’t the only one – his interactions with Colter and everyone else were fantastic. Chris Lee really nailed the role, adding much-needed humor and positivity to those intense missions. And it was clear in Season 2 that Randy is Colter’s go-to tech guy – he consistently delivers when things get really dangerous, and that’s a huge relief to watch!

Spending more time with Reenie helps Randy develop as a character, moving beyond simply assisting Colter with tech problems. This new relationship gives him more depth, and the audience might discover more about his past.

As a fan of *Tracker*, I’m really excited about the news of a 22-episode Season 3! Justin Hartley let slip that we’ll be getting even more of the show, and that opens up some fantastic possibilities. Specifically, it sounds like we might see Randy back in action alongside Colter. Their partnership, which really clicked in Season 2, was a highlight, and I’m hoping these extra episodes will give them more opportunities to work together. Plus, with that many installments, the writers have room to really delve into the personal lives of both Randy and Reenie – something I’ve been wanting to see more of.
