The developers of the Trails RPG series, Falcom, have decided how the story will ultimately conclude and expect to finish the entire series within approximately six years.
Toshihiro Kondo, the president of the company, recently gave a revealing interview with Famitsu. Translated by Gematsu, the extensive four-page conversation is full of surprising statements and insights from the outspoken leader.
Okay, I get it now! Falcom is actually celebrating 45 years as a company, so I guess we can cut Kondo some slack for going all out with everything. It makes sense when you think about it!
The big news is that the studio has finally decided how the Trails series will end. With thirteen games released over more than two decades, and all of them connected, reaching a definitive conclusion is a significant milestone.
Even though the end is still several years off, assuming development stays on track, Kondo has essentially confirmed there will be one more major story arc. They’re currently figuring out what the main character’s job will be in this final chapter, and Falcom has a general idea of how long it will take to create.
The plan is to reveal the last game in the Trails series on the company’s 50th anniversary in 2031, and then finish development by 2032.
If everything goes as planned, we could see three to five more games in the Trails series. It’s pretty amazing to consider!
According to Kondo, the story for the next Trails game—a sequel to Trails beyond the Horizon—is already written and prepared.
The next major installment, currently known as Horizon 2, is expected to become available in 2027. Before that, fans can look forward to a remastered version of Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter, which will be released this fall.
Wow, that’s a huge amount of content in the Trails series! After experiencing so much, what are your thoughts on it now? And are you ready for a potentially long wait – maybe another six years – to find out how the story ends? Share your reactions and thoughts in the comments below!
