Following the highly successful release of Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter in September, developer Falcom announced they were already working on a complete remake of Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter.
We don’t have a confirmed release date yet, but the sequel remake is anticipated to come out next year. Because the original game is so well-loved, excitement for the new version is incredibly high—and we couldn’t resist the pun!
So, what comes next after the remake of the second Sky game? It seems logical that Falcom would remake the third game, Trails in the Sky The 3rd. The title would fit right in with the remakes they’re already doing!
However, the decision isn’t simple. According to a recent interview with Dengeki Online (translated by Automaton), Falcom’s CEO, Toshihiro Kondo, revealed the studio is currently debating which older Trails game to remake.
We’re debating whether to play Trails in the Sky The 3rd or Trails from Zero next – we can’t quite agree on which one to choose.
Several members feel it would be best to remake ‘From Zero’ before starting ‘The 3rd’.
Trails from Zero follows the events of the Sky trilogy, but features a new story with a largely new group of characters and a different location.
It might seem strange to immediately move on to the next game in the series, but the problem seems to be that The 3rd is a bit different from other Trails games.
The 3rd installment nicely concludes the story of the Sky games and ties up many loose ends, but it stands out from the others with its unusual dungeon-focused gameplay.
Kondo believes a remake of The 3rd is inevitable, and he’s considering many different approaches to how it could be redesigned.
Falcom isn’t just working on remakes; they’re also making the next installment in the Daybreak saga. This game, which follows ‘Trails beyond the Horizon’ (coming to Western audiences in January), is currently in active development.
Falcom has a lot on its plate, and it will be interesting to see how they manage to juggle working on both complete remakes of older games and developing the next generation of titles in the series.
What would you like to see Falcom create next? Are you hoping for ‘The Third’? Or would you prefer a remake that refines its distinctive style? Share your thoughts in the comments!
