Falcom has officially revealed the next installment in the Tokyo Xanadu series, a game they’ve been developing for at least two years.
Kyoto Xanadu is coming to PlayStation 5 this summer. For now, you can check out the trailer from the recent Nintendo Direct.
This game is similar to the last one – it’s an action RPG featuring a group of teenage heroes who unexpectedly find themselves in a fantastical world where fighting is the answer. It’s a pretty classic setup, really.
This game appears to be built with Falcom’s latest engine, the same one that gave Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter its beautiful visuals.
I’m really excited about Kyoto Xanadu! From what I’ve heard, they’re switching things up and going with side-scrolling dungeons, kind of like a Metroidvania game. That’s different from the fully 3D world in Tokyo Xanadu, and I’m honestly curious to see what fans think of this new direction. It’ll be fun to see how it plays!
Big battles, however, will still take place in a fully 3D space.
