When it comes to powerful, animalistic robots, the Dinobots are the fiercest of the Cybertronians. These robots, modeled after dinosaurs, have been fan favorites since the original Transformers series, and now a company is releasing a smaller version of one of their members – a specialist in aerial combat.
Cang Toys has shown off a color sample of their Pterhowl figure, which is a fan-made take on the classic Dinobot Swoop. Unlike their previous versions of the character, this one is designed to be the same size as toys from the Transformers Generations line, rather than the larger Transformers: Masterpiece series. We can probably expect to see other Dinobot figures announced soon, but Pterhowl currently stands out as the most impressive so far.
New Take on a G1 Aerial Dinobot Is in Scale With Transformers Generations Toys

TA-Hylo Pterhowl’s design is heavily inspired by the original Swoop from Generation 1, but with a unique, more stylized look. It specifically uses the gray and red color scheme of the original toy, unlike the blue torso seen in the cartoon. Both the robot and pterodactyl forms are much more angular and have sharper details than the blockier G1 design, which is noticeable even in familiar features like Swoop’s head. Despite being smaller than other figures from Cang Toys, Pterhowl has an impressive amount of detail. He comes with twin wing blades for his robot mode and missile-like accessories on his wings, though these don’t appear to be removable.
This toy transforms into a robot, a beast, and can even become an arm for the combined Dinobot team. It’s a new version of a character that’s become very popular with collectible toy makers. While the original Dinobots from the 80s didn’t combine, recent Transformers shows and comics often portray them as a powerful team that merges together. Cang Toys plans to release more Dinobots at this size, though we don’t know exactly when. Newly released photos show the toy will cost 199 yuan (about $28 USD). Cang Toys and others also create a wide variety of Transformers figures, including both well-known characters and lesser-known robots.
