Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes just had a timeout called on their business plans.
The Kansas City Chiefs and their business partner, Noble 33, are being sued by 1587 Sneakers. The lawsuit claims trademark infringement related to the name of the players’ steakhouse, 1587 Prime.
From the beginning, we’ve consistently said we believe both sides can respect and understand each other,” said Adam King, co-founder of 1587 Sneakers, in a statement to ESPN. “We still feel that way and are hopeful we can find a peaceful solution.”
According to ESPN, the shoe company that was featured on Shark Tank in 2024 is suing several NFL players, claiming their restaurant name is too similar to the shoe company’s brand name.
Travis, age 36, and Patrick, age 30, launched 1587 Prime in September. They chose the name to reflect their football jersey numbers – Patrick wears number 15 and Travis wears 87.
ESPN reports that 1587 Sneakers began selling shoes in April 2023, before Patrick and Travis even opened their restaurant. Interestingly, the company didn’t trademark its numbers until October 2025 – a month after the restaurant’s opening.
Patrick and Travis filed a trademark application for 1587 Sneakers in December 2023, and it’s currently being reviewed by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

The restaurant owned by professional footballers and the sneaker company both have trademarks, but in different categories—restaurants and clothing, respectively. However, the sneaker company is also claiming the restaurant is infringing on its brand by selling merchandise with the same numbers. They say many customers have mistakenly contacted 1587 Sneakers, thinking it’s associated with the 1587 Prime restaurant due to the similar names.
TopMob News has reached out to Travis and Patrick’s reps for comment but have not yet heard back.
According to ESPN, the sneaker company wants the restaurant group to completely stop using its name, claiming it’s confusing customers. They’re also seeking financial compensation for the issue.
As a huge fan of the Kansas City team, I’ve been following their new restaurant closely! It’s located right inside the Loews Kansas City Hotel, and from what I’ve seen online, they’re aiming for a really cool vibe – taking the traditional American steakhouse and giving it a modern update. I can’t wait to try it!

Before the grand opening, Travis shared why he wanted to venture into the restaurant business.
Travis explained to People magazine last April that bringing this new offering to Kansas City was a way to show gratitude for a city that’s passionate about both food and football.
Travis is more than just a business owner. To learn more about what he’s like both as a football player and in his personal life, continue reading.

Although Travis Kelce is now strongly associated with Kansas City, Missouri, he was actually raised in Cleveland Heights, Ohio.
During game broadcasts where players are introduced, the announcer proudly shares his hometown instead of mentioning his college, the University of Cincinnati.
Which, as you might guess, has irked some fellow alums.
Travis Kelce explained that while he deeply values his time at the University of Cincinnati, it wasn’t always easy. Speaking at his 2019 Hall of Fame induction at Cleveland Heights High School, alongside his brother Jason, he admitted he faced challenges, including losing his scholarship due to some poor decisions. He joked that he was likely the ‘Heights guy’ everyone knew who’d made a few mistakes.
Man, the Heights… it’s not just my place, it’s everyone’s place up here. Seriously, looking around at all the different people… it just builds something inside me, you know? Everything I do, everything, is for this city. I know it sounds like a typical athlete thing to say, but I swear, when you see me celebrating, when you see me dancing after a touchdown? That’s for Cleveland Heights, all of you. It’s my way of giving back to the place that made me.

2. About that revoked scholarship…
Oh man, it was devastating! After the Bearcats had this perfect 2009 season – winning the Big East and everything! – it all came crashing down for Travis. Apparently, he was just letting loose a little too much on New Year’s Eve in New Orleans, and it cost him. He failed a drug test right before the Sugar Bowl. I mean, seriously? All that hard work, and it ended like that? It still makes me so mad thinking about it!
He didn’t just miss the bowl game – the NCAA suspended him for the entire 2010 season and he lost his scholarship. This left him without housing or meals, so he moved in with his brother Jason, sharing a room in the house Jason shared with teammates. To make ends meet, he took a job as a telemarketer, calling people to gauge their opinions on the Affordable Care Act.
They did, and Travis could not wait to get back on the field.

Before focusing on football, Travis played hockey, baseball, and basketball. He originally played quarterback in high school and was even recruited to Cincinnati as a two-star quarterback. However, he had to switch to tight end to rejoin the team after being suspended.
When I was drafted by the Chiefs in 2013, we already had a great quarterback in Zach Collaros, but our running and passing games needed some improvement,” Travis explained to Arrowhead Pride. “I spoke with my coach, Butch Jones, and he felt a tight end was what we needed. Luckily, my abilities and athleticism were a good fit, and it all worked out perfectly for me.
He told GQ magazine in 2017, reflecting on a difficult time, that people had always seen him as a tight end, regardless of his own aspirations.

Travis often hung out with Jason and other members of the Bearcats team at the house on 127 W. Nixon Street, and they frequently had fun, often involving beer.
Before the 2024 Super Bowl, a college friend and teammate, Tom DeTemple, told the New York Times that the brothers would spend hours playing Nintendo 64. He described them enthusiastically mashing the controller buttons while also drinking beer, and they even invented spontaneous drinking games while they played, becoming quite skilled at them.
5. And suffice it to say, Travis is extremely proud of being a Bearcat.
Before the 2023 Super Bowl, the Chiefs player spoke to reporters about how much Cincinnati means to him. He’s incredibly proud of his time at the University of Cincinnati, where he recently earned his degree, and he actively supports the school whenever possible. He especially misses the teammates and people he met there who have always supported him through good times and bad.
Even while facing NCAA scrutiny, he explained that the players, coaches, and staff at the university had faith in his ability to improve and succeed, which meant a lot to him then.

Nearly ten years after starting his NFL career, Travis completed his college degree in interdisciplinary studies in 2022. He officially received his diploma in April 2024 at a special, impromptu graduation ceremony held in Cincinnati after he and Jason recorded a live episode of their podcast, New Heights, at Fifth Third Arena.
As the graduate went to shake the dean’s hand in congratulations, he was already holding a beer and immediately drank it down.
And Travis was going to graduate in 2022 but he missed his flight.

Travis Kelce wasn’t one of the first tight ends drafted in 2013, largely because of some personal issues. He was selected by the Chiefs in the third round, as the fifth tight end chosen overall. After the draft, Chiefs coach Andy Reid, who had previously worked with Travis’s brother Jason in Philadelphia, asked Jason to give him a positive recommendation about Travis.
Andy and Travis have three Super Bowl rings to show for Jason’s endorsement.
Travis used to listen to Randy Newman’s song “Burn On” before every game for years, though his pre-game music choices have likely changed now.
Growing up on the east side of Cleveland, this song always makes me reflect on my family and how grateful I am for my life, he explained on the 2017 NBC Sports podcast, PFT Live.
Let us explain: It’s in the opening credits of Major League, the ultimate Cleveland sports movie.

9. Everyone, including Travis, is mispronouncing his last name.
Everyone’s been pronouncing Kelce as “Kel-see,” but the correct pronunciation actually rhymes with “else.”
The news came out when Chris Jones, Travis’ teammate, mentioned it on Inside the NFL in January, famously saying, “Crazy, right?” Travis and his brother Jason later confirmed the story when they talked to their dad, Ed Kelce, on their New Heights podcast.
Jason was confused. “Seriously, why the sudden name change? And why did we all think our name was Kel-see for so long – 27 years for me, 25 for Trav?”
Ed admitted he “got tired of correcting people” but urged his son to “do whatever you want.”

Travis has worn the number 87 his entire NFL career to honor his brother Jason, who was born in 1987.
Travis Kelce shared with NFL Films before the 2023 Super Bowl that the family’s NFL story – with both him and his brother Jason playing professionally – began with his birth in 1987. He was referring to the fact that he was born that year, setting the stage for both brothers’ future careers, as his Chiefs prepared to play against Jason’s Eagles.
Travis Kelce’s Eighty Seven & Running foundation has consistently supported Operation Breakthrough, a Kansas City nonprofit learning center. He’s been involved with the organization since 2015, when he first visited to read The Cat in the Hat to the children.
Yes, reader, he wore the hat.
Since then, Travis has supported the program by funding its Smart Lab and purchasing the building next door. This allowed them to create the Ignition Lab, where students transformed old, discarded cars into functioning electric vehicles.

Travis and Jason affectionately call their podcast listeners “92 percenters.” This nickname comes from a joke Jason made about a football play – a quarterback sneak – which he said succeeds about 92% of the time when a team only needs to gain one yard for a touchdown.
Listeners loved the podcast so much they playfully started calling themselves the “92 percenters.” The podcast’s website described this shared nickname as a way for fans to connect with each other, like a verbal inside joke.
Who were the Kelce brothers to argue with that?

Travis Kelce works with three trainers – Alex Skacel, Andrew Spruill, and Laurence Justin Ng – and typically has one of them travel with him to help him stay in peak condition for football throughout the year, according to The Athletic.
Alex, a physical therapist, remembered Travis wanting to go for a run late at night after Paris Fashion Week. Travis had skipped his usual workout that day and was eager to get some exercise.
According to a recent interview with the New York Times, the trainer said they were doing sprint workouts on the bridges over the river at midnight. He emphasized that, regardless of location, this individual consistently makes time to complete necessary tasks.
Travis has been friends with his personal chef, Kumar Ferguson, since they were kids growing up in Cleveland Heights.
In 2016, he was a truck driver who enjoyed cooking as a hobby when Travis contacted him with a job offer.
Kumar recalled that the person said, ‘I really want to commit to a healthy diet and take it to the next level.’ Kumar responded by saying he was immediately on board, and just a few days later, he found himself in Kansas City.
He handles a wide range of tasks, from simple things like keeping Travis’ fridge full to more involved duties like providing nutritious lunches for the Chiefs’ players at their practice facility.

Travis Kelce has been getting a lot of attention for his facial hair lately. He recently shared on his podcast, New Heights, that he shaved his beard after the season in 2023 but kept his mustache to copy the look favored by his coach, Andy Reid – and he’s doing it again in 2024.

In April 2024, Travis signed a two-year contract worth $34.25 million, making him the NFL’s highest-paid tight end for the first time in his career.
Which finally put an end to years of chatter about how much money he wasn’t making.
In a 2023 interview with Vanity Fair, Travis Kelce joked that his managers and agents frequently point out he deserves a higher salary. He said whenever he brings up wanting to earn more, they always suggest he ask the Kansas City Chiefs for a raise.
By that point, he had found other ways to make money, so he was more interested in enjoying his work than earning a large salary.
He said the idea of a free market seems good until you experience losing. He emphasized that he enjoys success and is happy with his current position.
It’s tough seeing other players earn so much money – it definitely makes you question things,” he said. “You start to wonder if you’re being fairly compensated, and whether pushing harder would actually get you what you deserve. Despite those thoughts, I genuinely love going to work every day.

Travis developed a passion for clothing early on, growing up in Cleveland Heights. He described his high school as a daily “fashion show” in a 2023 interview with Vanity Fair.
He turned a bedroom into a walk-in closet to store his expensive clothes and impressive sneaker collection of over 300 pairs. He even splurged on a pair of size-13 Nike Air Mags with a significant portion of his first professional salary, even though they didn’t quite fit.
He told the Wall Street Journal that early in his career, before sneaker apps were common, he’d just buy whatever size of shoe he could find that he liked.
He’s a big fan of Nike, especially since they sponsor him, but he also loves Chuck Taylor sneakers. They bring back fond memories of the movie The Sandlot and its star baseball player, Benny “The Jet” Rodriguez.

18. Among his dozens of investments, Travis co-owns Ohio-brewed Garage Beer with Jason.
Travis shared in a statement last June that he enjoys a beer every now and then, so he’s thrilled to be an owner of Garage Beer and help create a great light beer. He believes there’s nothing quite like a cold beer to connect people, and that’s what he and Jason value most about beer: bringing friends and family together for good times.
19. We’re sensing a theme when it comes to Travis’ guilty pleasure TV choices.
He reminisced about the TV show Gossip Girl, describing it on the New Heights podcast as a classic New York high school drama filled with gossip and people talking negatively about each other. He said, “It’s awesome.”
His new favorite show? Peacock’s Emmy-winning backstab-a-ganza The Traitors.

After playing in the NFL for twelve seasons and now at age 35, Travis has recently been more forthcoming about the physical demands and challenges of the sport.
From the very beginning of his career, he’s faced constant setbacks and pain. He first injured his knee as a rookie, needing surgery – the first of ten he’s undergone – and has been quietly battling through it ever since.

Travis Kelce recently shared on his podcast, New Heights, that he tried to give Taylor Swift a friendship bracelet with his phone number on it while she was performing in Kansas City, but wasn’t able to.
She heard through mutual connections that Travis wanted to meet her, and then she reached out to him.
He told WSJ. Magazine that she explained the whole situation to him and how he was fortunate she contacted him.
Travis has always loved French toast, especially when it’s covered in whipped cream and syrup.
But more recently he’s become a fan of his girlfriend’s homemade Pop-Tarts and cinnamon rolls.
23. At least one of Travis’ ringtones is Chris Farley shrieking “For the love of God!” in Tommy Boy.
He told WSJ. Magazine that he wants to share his love of comedians like Chris Farley, Adam Sandler, and Will Ferrell with Taylor. He explained, “I told her, ‘This is what I’m really into.’”

After the Chiefs won the AFC Championship in 2019, Travis Kelce shouted “You’ve got to fight for your right to party!” This led to the team playing the Beastie Boys’ song of the same name after every touchdown scored at Arrowhead Stadium during home games.
Chiefs general manager Brett Veach described Travis Kelce as a huge boost to team morale, saying in 2020, “It’s hard to overstate how valuable that is.” Kelce brings a contagious energy, passion, and positive attitude that unites the team. Everyone in the Chiefs organization considers Travis a friend, and he genuinely brightens the mood, improves focus, and makes things enjoyable for everyone.
I was so surprised to learn that the artist who made that amazing song—the one that’s been a huge part of my life since 1986—actually didn’t fully know all the lyrics! Apparently, he had to learn everything properly when he was asked to sing it with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show back in February 2023. It’s funny to think about, honestly!

I was so excited to hear Travis talk about Taylor’s music! He revealed in May 2024 that his top three favorite songs by her are “Blank Space,” “The Alchemy,” and “So High School.” It’s amazing to get a peek into what he loves about her songwriting!
When asked about it a few months later, he gave a different answer, saying, “I love them all—absolutely every single one.”
He publicly stated in August 2025 that his favorite song from The Life of a Show Girl is “Opalite.”

People began comparing Travis Kelce to Tony Gonzalez, the Chiefs’ all-time great tight end who retired in 2013 after 17 seasons, very early in Kelce’s career.
I remember back in 2015, everyone was buzzing about whether Travis could actually beat Tony’s records, and how let down people would be if he didn’t. But Travis himself said he completely blocked out all the talk and didn’t let it bother him at all.
I’m my own harshest critic,” he explained to Complex. “I’m aiming for a record-breaking season – I want to be the most productive tight end statistically that’s ever played the game.”
In 2024, Travis became the Chiefs’ all-time leader in receptions, breaking Tony’s record with his 917th catch.
Travis recently shared on the New Heights podcast how things often come back around. He pointed out that being a leader on the Kansas City Chiefs – a team with roots going back to the 1960s – feels special because they’re one of the original franchises still succeeding at the highest level. He credits their long history, and especially someone like Tony Gonzalez, who has guided him, saying he has a lot of respect for Gonzalez.
27. Of Travis’ many accomplishments, keeping his house in order on his own isn’t one of them.
“He can’t clean,” mom Donna Kelce told Extra in September 2024. “He can’t cook.”
But perhaps hosting a special someone served as extra motivation to get it together.
“He’s getting a little better,” Donna acknowledged. “I think he’s getting some help.”
