As a dedicated follower of sports and horse racing, it seems Travis Kelce is making a strategic move by investing in Swift Delivery, a gelding with a winning pedigree and a connection to Taylor Swift‘s name. It’s not hard to see that this NFL star is branching out beyond his football career and trying to create a new legacy for himself.
It’s not too late for Travis Kelce and his horse to come around.
It’s been reported that a player from the Kansas City Chiefs has purchased a share in a three-year-old racehorse called Swift Delivery, which is under the care of Thoroughbred racing stable Team Valor International.
Currently, Travis has a common passion for racehorses with Gary Barber, well-known producer of the movie Scream, as well as Bruce Zoldan and his son Alex Zoldan. Bruce is the owner of Phantom Fireworks, while Alex is one of his sons.
Of course, spectators couldn’t help but notice the resemblance between the horse’s name and Taylor Swift, whom Travis has been seeing since last summer.
The well-known NFL player’s elder brother, Jason Kelce, also made a joke related to Taylor, referring to his new acquisition. On X (formerly Twitter) on August 27, he referenced the singer’s song “The Tortured Poets Department” with the question, “Can this horse perform with a broken heart?”
1. Travis’ recent investment in the racehorse isn’t his first sign of enthusiasm for racing; he had actually attended the Kentucky Derby three months ago as a guest of the Zoldans.
On their New Heights podcast episode from May 8th, the 34-year-old expressed, “I’ve become a Derby fan, to be honest,” adding, “It was such a blast!”
In a warm expression, Travis referred to the occasion as an exceptional, impressive experience. He further extended his gratitude towards the Zoldans for their hospitality and considered them as esteemed figures, synonymous with the grandeur of the Kentucky Derby.
He mentioned, “For the past three decades, they’ve become an integral part of the Derby.” He added, “They manage to make attending the Derby a pleasurable and exciting experience.”
Regarding Swift Delivery, the chestnut horse mirrors Travis’s success, securing the top spot with an impressive victory in a lopsided race at Woodbine in Toronto just last month.
The horse-breeding database Equine Line indicates that Swift Delivery shares ancestry with the Triple Crown champion Secretariat, whom some, including Jason, have humorously speculated may have used performance-boosting substances during his record-breaking career.
The ex-Philadelphia Eagles player remarked during his appearance on “New Heights” that Secretariat, being in the thick of it, coincidentally hailed from the time of performance-enhancing drug use. In 1973, it was common for NFL and baseball players to be using such substances excessively. He posed the question: Isn’t it possible that Secretariat was also using performance-enhancing drugs?
Later on, I acknowledged my mistake with a sincere apology when it was brought to my attention that the claims I made about Penny Chenery, the beloved owner of the legendary horse Secretariat, were refuted by her children in public.
In his May 6 post on X, Jason apologized, stating he didn’t intend to stir up emotions. He clarified that he assumed it was common knowledge that steroid use was widespread in the 70s. He made it clear that he doesn’t aim to diminish Secretariat’s, or anyone from that era’s, legacy.
