It’s interesting to note that Disney’s initial 1982 film TRON and its sequel TRON: Legacy from 2010 have missed numerous anniversary milestones without a 4K Blu-ray release. However, the upcoming third movie in the series – TRON: Ares – seems to have prompted this long-awaited release at last.
On September 16, for the very first time, TRON and TRON: Legacy will make their debut on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, coming in stylish Steelbook cases. As of now, pre-orders aren’t available yet, but they are expected to be soon on Amazon and Walmart. If you’re aiming to complete the trilogy, we anticipate that the 4K Blu-ray for TRON: Ares will also become available via those links around October 10th, which is when it’s set to hit theaters. As you’ll find out below, Disney put a lot of effort into restoring the first two films.

Disney states that “TRON was meticulously scanned and restored digitally by The Walt Disney Film Restoration team, who removed dirt, distortions, and other flaws for crystal-clear visual quality. This process was overseen by the film’s original director, Steven Lisberger. TRON: Legacy has been remastered using High Dynamic Range technology from its original digital sources under the supervision of director Joseph Kosinski. With painstaking care, both movies take viewers back to the digital world, offering an even more captivating, dynamic, and visually stunning experience than before.
