The teaser for the upcoming film titled “Tron: Ares” offers fresh insights into its plot, particularly its relevance to contemporary worries about technology and artificial intelligence. The trailer commences with a brief introduction by Julian Dillinger (portrayed by Evan Peters), who elucidates how the technology from the past films will be utilized for warfare, law enforcement, and spying. Subsequently, ominous warnings are shared by other characters, and it is only towards the end of the trailer that we hear directly from the character, Ares (played by Jared Leto). The first glimpse of Jeff Bridges reprising his role as Kevin Flynn is also provided. “Tron: Ares” is set to be released in cinemas on October 10th.
In the previous two movies, the storyline unfolds within a virtual world called the Grid. However, this new trailer hints that the action in the upcoming film will spill over into reality. A young member of the Dillinger family, who is set to inherit the family business, appears to be making a sales pitch to military officials about “Ares,” an AI-created super-soldier. This advanced warrior bears a resemblance to Tron’s digital warriors and can be mass-produced using 3D printing technology, according to Dillinger, for various tasks required by his clients.
The trailer showcases the usual elements of the Tron series – light-cycles, battles with neon hues, and humanity encountering its own overconfidence. Regarding Leto’s AI character, it seems he might have his own storyline. He expresses his search for something he doesn’t fully grasp, and when asked about his desire to survive, Ares responds, “It’s simply a sensation.
Despite the trailers and teasers we’ve already seen for “Tron: Ares,” it’s challenging to guess what the movie will offer. It appears to be hiding many mysteries and intriguing queries, but there’s still time for more disclosures before the grand opening. Over the past decade and a half, this film has undergone numerous changes, even being planned as a full reboot at one point. The most recent promotional content labels it more as a sequel, maintaining the storyline of “Tron: Legacy.
In the new setup, Peters assumes the role as the latest Dillinger family member, a descendant of the film’s initial villain, Ed Dillinger ( portrayed by David Warner). We were introduced to Ed’s son Edward Jr., played by Cillian Murphy, in Tron: Legacy, but it remains unclear how Julian is related to them. Although Gillian Anderson plays his mother Elisabeth, their relationship seems strained as she has mostly passed her business responsibilities to Julian at the onset of this narrative. It appears they don’t always agree on things.
The upcoming film, Tron: Ares, is gearing up to deliver a thought-provoking critique on artificial intelligence and an unexpectedly dark sci-fi adventure for Disney. If previews are any indication, it promises to be a gripping watch when it hits theaters on October 10th. For those who haven’t caught up yet, the preceding two movies are currently available for streaming on Disney+.
