Even after almost 20 years, Superbad is still considered the best teen comedy ever made. The 2007 film, starring Jonah Hill and Michael Cera, was funny, memorable, and surprisingly touching – it perfectly captured the awkwardness of being a teenager. Few comedies have reached that same level since, but a new one from 2023 is now available to watch for free on Tubi.
You should check out the movie Bottoms, now available on Tubi as of February 1st. Directed by Emma Seligman, it stars Rachel Sennott and Ayo Edebiri as two high school seniors who try to start a self-defense class hoping to attract girls and lose their virginity. Things quickly spiral out of control, though, when their plan sparks jealousy from the football team and the class transforms into a wild and chaotic fight club.
Bottoms Is an Unapologetically Raunchy Take on the Teen Comedy Genre

If you enjoyed Superbad, you’ll probably love Bottoms. It delivers the same kind of hilariously crude and character-focused comedy, but with a fresh, queer perspective and plenty of satire. Like Superbad, it follows a group of underdogs trying to climb the social ladder in high school, and they come up with a ridiculously wild plan to do it. Bottoms is chaotic, over-the-top, and doesn’t hold back with its fast-paced humor or its take on high school life. The jokes come quickly and naturally, making it feel like a modern comedy classic in the making.
Okay, so I just saw this movie, and honestly, it’s fantastic. It’s got a really high score on Rotten Tomatoes – 91% from critics and 89% from audiences – and it totally deserves it. It’s wonderfully chaotic, in the best way, and I guarantee you won’t be let down. Beyond the sharp satire and just plain weird humor, the leads, Sennott and Edebiri, have incredible chemistry and timing. Plus, the supporting cast is killer – Marshawn Lynch as the apathetic teacher, Mr. G, is a particular highlight! What I really loved, though, was how unapologetically queer the movie is; the characters are flawed, messy, and real. And seriously, the lines are so good – it’s endlessly quotable. I’m already planning a rewatch!
