TV’s Biggest Horror Franchise Returns With New Episodes on Netflix

Horror is doing incredibly well in movies and on television. Recent films like Smile, Barbarian, and Weapons have been frightening audiences in theaters, while shows like The Haunting of Hill House and What We Do in the Shadows have become popular with viewers at home. Netflix offers a wide variety of horror content, and subscribers can now enjoy the latest installments of a major horror series.

Everyone knows The Walking Dead is a hugely popular and successful horror series. Even though the original show ended in 2022, one of its spinoffs has just released new episodes. All six episodes of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 2 are now available on Netflix, starting October 21st. Created by David Zabel, this is the fifth Walking Dead spin-off, and it follows Daryl (Norman Reedus) as he unexpectedly ends up in post-apocalyptic France. Season 2, officially titled The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol, also brings back Melissa McBride as Carol Peletier.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Is a Great Expansion of the TWD Universe

Though not the first spin-off, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon was the first to move the story outside of North America. While Fear the Walking Dead briefly featured Mexico, Daryl Dixon fully relocated the action to France, and later Spain, demonstrating the potential for a truly global Walking Dead universe. This shift broadened the show’s scope and highlighted the worldwide impact of the zombie apocalypse.

While not quite as strong as The Walking Dead at its peak, this spinoff remains a solid continuation of the story. It follows a popular character from the original series, allowing them to grow even further after eleven seasons. The new French setting is a welcome change for the franchise, introducing interesting new characters like Isabelle. Compared to the later seasons of The Walking Dead, this show benefits from a smaller cast and a more focused narrative.

There’s More The Walking Dead on the Way

The story of The Walking Dead Universe isn’t over yet, and that includes the show focusing on Daryl’s adventures. The third season recently finished airing on October 19th, and it’s been confirmed there will be a fourth and final season, though we don’t know when it will begin.

The future of The Walking Dead franchise looks promising, with both Daryl Dixon and The Walking Dead: Dead City leading the way. According to writer and executive producer Scott Gimple, the series could continue for another 15 years, potentially until 2040, and explore stories on different continents. He’s excited to see how the characters and the overall universe will develop over time.

You can now watch Season 2 of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon on Netflix. The streaming service also has all 11 seasons of the original The Walking Dead series, plus spin-off shows like Dead City and Fear The Walking Dead.
