Adapting the chaotic world of Twisted Metal was a big undertaking, but Sony and Peacock successfully brought the vehicular combat series to life with their TV show. The first season laid the groundwork for the story and characters, and season 2 significantly raised the intensity. Good news for fans – Twisted Metal has been renewed for a third season! However, there will be a major change happening behind the scenes as the show prepares for its return.
Peacock has ordered a third season of Twisted Metal, with the original cast returning. However, the show will have a new leader: David Reed, known for his work on The Boys, will be the new showrunner and executive producer. He’s taking over from Michael Jonathan Smith, though the reason for the change hasn’t been announced.
Peacock confirmed that Chris Smith has left his role as showrunner and executive producer. However, the show appears to be in good hands with the arrival of David Reed, who has a strong background in television. He’s previously worked as a writer and executive producer on the popular series The Boys, and has also contributed to shows like Supernatural, The Magicians, Revolution, and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
Okay, so I heard Sony and Peacock are really excited about making more Twisted Metal. Apparently, season two did insanely well on Peacock – almost a billion minutes watched! It was their second most popular returning show, which is awesome. Hopefully, they can keep that momentum going and make season three even bigger and better. I’m definitely hyped!
In Season 2, John (Anthony Mackie) and Quiet (Stephanie Beatriz) learned about the Twisted Metal tournament. They teamed up with the hilariously unhinged Sweet Tooth (voiced by Joe Senoa and played by Will Arnett), and met two new characters: Dollface (Tiana Okoye) and Calypso (Anthony Carrigan).
As season 3 begins, John and Quiet are on the run, falsely accused of murder by Calypso after the tournament. They’re determined to prove their innocence and defeat him. But things are complicated by a brewing war between the Insiders and Outsiders, and the ongoing, difficult situation surrounding the still-living Sweet Tooth.
While a release date for Twisted Metal season 3 hasn’t been announced, you can currently watch seasons 1 and 2 on Peacock.
