After much anticipation, the future of the Twisted Metal TV show is now known. Based on the popular PlayStation video game, the Peacock series brings the game’s wild characters, crazy vehicles, and high-octane car combat to life. Starring Anthony Mackie, Stephanie Beatriz, and Will Arnett, the show’s second season finally delivered the explosive tournament fans had been hoping for. Season 2 finished filming in August, and viewers have been waiting to hear if it will be renewed.
According to Deadline, the action comedy Twisted Metal is coming back for a third season. Peacock says the show’s second season was a huge hit, racking up over 993 million minutes of viewing time – making it their second most popular returning original series. Combined with strong reviews – the second season currently has a 92% ‘Fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes – the renewal isn’t surprising.
Season 3 of Twisted Metal will have a new showrunner. Michael Jonathan Smith, who led the series previously, is moving on, and David Reed – known for his work on shows like The Boys and The Magicians – is taking over. While it’s often challenging to change showrunners after a good season, Reed’s experience suggests he’s a good fit for what Twisted Metal fans want.

Below are Spoilers for Twisted Metal season 2!
The first season of Twisted Metal set the stage for a high-stakes car combat tournament, and the second season finally delivered. John and Quiet spent the entire season working their way towards the tournament, which had a surprising winner and a thrilling conclusion. The show also gave more depth to other popular characters like Sweet Tooth, Axel, Raven, and Mr. Grimm. While John and Quiet are often the focus, the series boasts a strong cast and writing team that bring the entire world to life.
Although the plot of Season 3 is still a mystery, the Season 2 finale has established the central conflict. After a bombing at the Twisted Metal tournament – which killed many people – John and Quiet are wrongly accused by Calypso, the event’s organizer. This attack is intended to start a war between two groups, the Insiders and Outsiders, and our heroes are caught right in the middle. The new season will likely follow multiple characters, including Stu, who won the tournament only to find himself in a dangerous situation.
The upcoming season of Twisted Metal aims to include as many of the show’s unique characters as possible, as the series is built around a large and eccentric cast. Popular characters like Sweet Tooth, who is a recognizable face of the Twisted Metal games, are expected to return. The show may also introduce new drivers and vehicles, similar to how Axel and Mr. Grimm were added in Season 2.
