Two Doors Down Christmas special and its cast confirmed by BBC after 2 years away

Over its seven-season span, the show gained an increasing number of fans, moving from BBC Two to BBC One due to strong viewer interest. However, speculation about the continuation of Two Doors Down arose after a backstage incident occurred.

In August 2023, Simon Carlyle, a key figure in our production, tragically passed away at just 48 years old. A few months later, Doon Mackichan announced on Instagram that due to the profound sadness caused by this loss, our sitcom would be temporarily concluding.

After a hiatus of two years, Carlyle’s longtime writing partner and co-creator of Two Doors Down, Gregor Sharp, has confirmed the return of the sitcom. The new episode is scheduled to debut this Christmas.

This version maintains the original’s clarity but uses more common and conversational language to make it easier to read.

Sharp said, “I’m genuinely thrilled to once more step foot on Latimer Crescent, with our usual group of actors, for this fresh installment.

Christmas is an occasion for reuniting with dear friends and relatives, but sometimes their presence can lead to mild annoyance, making them the ideal company to share this festive time.

The exact events are yet to be revealed, but it’s certain that the narrative will take place at the residence of characters Beth and Eric Baird, portrayed by Arabella Weir and Alex Norton respectively.

For the holiday festivities, Cathy (Mackichan), Christine (Elaine C Smith), Colin (Jonathan Watson), Alan (Graeme Stevely), Michelle (Joy McAvoy), and Ian (Jamie Quinn) along with his partner Gordon (Kieran Hodgson) will be present.

Jon Petrie, the head of BBC Comedy, notes that it’s reassuring to have neighbors over for Christmas, despite the slight disorder they might bring along.
