The much-anticipated sequel to “Five Nights at Freddy’s,” titled “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2,” is coming soon, bringing back two familiar faces from the “Scream” series – Skeet Ulrich and Matthew Lillard. Building on the success of last year’s video game adaptation, principal photography for the sequel began towards the end of 2024, with a planned release date set for December 5th. Similar to its predecessor, “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2” is expected to be based on the second installment in the “Five Nights at Freddy’s” game series.
Actor Skeet Ulrich is set to star in the upcoming “Five Nights At Freddy’s” film as Henry Emily, the co-owner of the Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza restaurant where the story unfolds. Previously seen in the first “Five Nights At Freddy’s” movie, Matthew Lillard will return to play the psychotic killer William Afton, who is also the father of protagonist Vanessa, portrayed by Elizabeth Lail (who is returning for this role as well). Given their past roles in the “Scream” horror series, the collaboration between Ulrich and Lillard is sure to excite fans of the genre.
The story revolves around Mike Schmidt, played by Josh Hutcherson, who takes up a night security job at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. However, things take a sinister turn when the animated animal figures mysteriously spring to life and begin murdering intruders. As events unfold, Mike discovers from Officer Vanessa (Lail) that the pizza place had shut down in the ’80s following the mysterious disappearance of several children (later revealed to have been killed by William Afton). It becomes apparent that these vengeful kids have taken control of the animatronic animals at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza.
In Wes Craven’s terrifying 1996 film “Scream”, the peaceful suburban town of Woodsboro is thrown into chaos when an unknown murderer, dressed in a cheap Halloween costume and dubbed “Ghostface”, begins a spree of killings. The shocking twist at the end of the third act uncovers that Ghostface is not one person but two – Billy Loomis (played by Ulrich), a disturbed high school student still grappling with his parents’ divorce, and Stu Macher (Lilliard), another student who assisted Billy in the murders. It is later revealed in “Scream 3” that Billy enlisted Stu to have someone to blame if they were caught.
In spite of Sidney Prescott’s victory over Billy and Stu in the movie Scream, their murderous spree set off a chain of imitators who assumed the Ghostface identity across the Scream series. Notably, Billy continued to exert a chilling influence on subsequent Scream films, with his mother Nancy Loomis assuming the Ghostface persona in Scream 2 to seek revenge for her son. Additionally, actor Matthew Lillard reprised his role as Billy in the 2022 and 2023 installments of Scream, portraying him as a spectral figure, while it’s rumored that he will return in the upcoming Scream 7 following Stu’s death in the original Scream movie.
For nearly three decades after they donned the Ghostface mask for the first time, Skeet Ulrich and Matthew Lillard have been involved in a diverse range of projects. However, their chilling portrayals of Billy Loomis and Stu Macher have left an indelible mark on the horror genre, ensuring that both actors remain synonymous with it. It’s unclear at this point whether Ulrich will be the hero or villain in Five Nights At Freddy’s 2, as contrasted to Lillard’s ongoing portrayal of the psychotic Ashton. Regardless, horror enthusiasts and fans of Scream are eagerly anticipating the highly anticipated reunion of two horror legends, Skeet Ulrich and Matthew Lillard, in Five Nights At Freddy’s 2.
Five Nights At Freddy’s 2 will be released in theaters on December 5th.
