Two games currently rank among the best of 2026, and they’re both exclusive to the PlayStation 5 – though they are also available on PC. These “exclusive” games are made by developers other than PlayStation, who have partnered with Sony to offer them first on PS5. Ultimately, this means that two of the year’s top ten games aren’t playable on Nintendo or Xbox consoles.
Okay, so looking at the best new games this year, if we ignore things like expansions and games that came to multiple platforms, two PlayStation 5 exclusives are seriously standing out. First up is Nioh 3 from Team Ninja and Koei Tecmo – it dropped back in February and, like the other Nioh games, it’s only on PS5. It’s currently sitting at an 86 on Metacritic, making it the sixth highest-rated new game of 2026 so far. The other one is Cairn, a brand new game from The Game Bakers – a French studio. It launched at the end of January and immediately got an 85 on Metacritic, which is pretty impressive!
Nioh 3
Team Ninja first gained recognition for games like Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive. More recently, they’ve become well-known for the Nioh series, which puts their own spin on the challenging ‘Soulslike’ style of gameplay.
Nioh 3 is available on the PlayStation Store for $70 and offers around 25 to 50 hours of gameplay, depending on whether you include optional side quests. Players who aim to complete everything might spend closer to 60 hours with this samurai action RPG. It’s also been enhanced for the PS5 Pro.
Cairn
The Game Bakers, the studio behind the games Furi (released in 2016) and Haven (2020), has a new hit. While many fans consider Furi their best work, their latest game, Cairn, has received the highest ratings of anything they’ve created so far.
Cairn is available on the PlayStation Store for $30 and offers between 10 and 20 hours of gameplay. You can expect around 10 hours for a standard playthrough and up to 20 if you aim to complete everything. It doesn’t feature any special improvements for the PS5 Pro.
