Tyler Perry’s New Thriller Strung Set to Premiere on Streaming Next Month

Tyler Perry is teaming up with Blumhouse for a new thriller movie, and it’s coming to streaming next month! Fans can expect a scary and suspenseful experience.

Perry will be a producer on the upcoming film Strung, directed by Malcolm D. Lee, and starring Chloe Bailey in the main role. This is Bailey’s second leading role after appearing in the 2023 series Swarm, which explored a young woman’s intense obsession with a pop star and the dangerous consequences that followed.

Jason Blum, Tim Palen, Lee, and Dominique Telson will join Perry as producers on the film. Philip Waley, Shaun S. Sutton, Alan McElroy, and Giselle Johnson-Morris are executive producers.

The upcoming film, Strung, features Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter as a gifted violinist. She takes a job teaching music to a wealthy and mysterious family, but the position quickly becomes a dangerous struggle for her well-being and mental health.

I’m so excited for this movie! Along with Demi Singleton and Niles Fitch, stars like Lynn Whitfield, Lucien Laviscount, Anna Diop, and Coco Jones are all part of the cast. Even better, it’s going to kick off the 30th American Black Film Festival in Miami Beach next year, from May 27th to May 31st, 2026! I’m really looking forward to attending – it’s supposed to be packed with amazing events, chances to meet people in the industry, and seeing incredible films made by Black directors, producers, and actors.

Nicole Friday, president of Nice Crowd and producer of the American Black Film Festival (ABFF), told Variety that the psychological thriller feels particularly relevant right now.

With the American Black Film Festival celebrating its 30th anniversary, it’s perfect to have Malcolm D. Lee back with his new film, Strung. Malcolm has long been a part of the ABFF family, and his return fits beautifully with this year’s ‘Homecoming’ theme. It’s a wonderful way to kick off the festival in Miami Beach and celebrate this important milestone.

It’s currently unknown if Perry will be at the festival, but he’s a seasoned filmmaker. He’s most famous for his Madea series, where he plays the unforgettable grandmother character. Madea is known for being direct, outspoken, and funny, and while she’s appeared in films with other storylines, she’s also the star of her own franchise, including Madea’s Family Reunion (2006), Madea Goes to Jail (2009), Madea’s Witness Protection (2012), A Madea Family Funeral (2019), and A Madea Homecoming (2022).

Tyler Perry is famous for creating the character Madea, but he often plays multiple roles in his films, including Joe, a charming and playful uncle figure. Recently, Perry has been focusing more on dramatic films, with notable titles like Why Did I Get Married? (2007), For Colored Girls (2010), Acrimony (2018), A Fall from Grace (2020), and A Jazzman’s Blues (2022).

Most of Perry’s movies can be found on Netflix, but his new film, Strung, will start streaming on Peacock on June 26, 2026.
